I’m all about salty snacks. Even more than sugary sweets, I adore salty snacks. That might be surprising, especially since I create new recipes and bake every week! I put my love of salty snacks into a Salty Snacks Cookie, and made these Salted Caramel Pecan Bars. Oh, and then there’s the Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars, too! Yep – my love of salt is prevalent in my baking, that’s for sure! This Salted Caramel Pretzel Candy just just one more way to celebrate salty + sweet in one, simple, quick, and easy recipe!
What you need:
- 1 bag (11.5 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream (optional)
- about 50-60 pretzels (or more if you want more!)
- 11 oz bag caramels (or Caramel Bits)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sea salt
- Mini M&M’s
Make them:
You can either use a 13×9 baking pan, or a cookie sheet. The candy will be thicker with the pan, and thinner with the sheet.
Lay wax paper down, then use baking spray or a small bit of oil and spread it all over the paper.
Melt the chocolate chips with heavy whipping cream in the microwave in 30 second increments. Stir in between heating. I like using the whipping cream because it makes the chocolate creamier and a little more spreadable.
Set aside about 1/4 cup of the melted chocolate.
Pour the rest of the melted chocolate on the pan or sheet, and spread with spatula.
Lay out pretzels on top of the chocolate in a single layer. I used about 53 pretzels for the cookie sheet. If you want more pretzels, use more!
Unwrap the caramels and melt in microwave with 2 tablespoons of water.
Quickly pour and spread caramel over pretzels, using a spatula. This hardens fairly quickly and becomes difficult to spread, so work quickly!
Sprinkle with sea salt and M&M’s. You could also use mini chocolate chips or other candy bits that you prefer!
Drizzle the leftover melted chocolate over the top
Set in the refrigerator at least 1 hour, until set.
Cut into bars or squares, and enjoy!
NOTE: I keep these in the fridge, because I like them a little more sturdy. The chocolate and caramel get soft fairly quickly, so keeping them cool lets them stay harder.
Try these candies, too!

Jeni’s Disclaimer: I’m just a regular girl. I love to drink wine while I bake. I’m by no means a professional baker or pro photographer. My creations aren’t staged, they just are what they are, and that’s probably obvious from the pictures. I create my recipes from inspiration of scents and flavors around me. I also repurpose my grandma’s old recipes. If you love to bake and your food ends up looking like REAL food, and not like something you’ll see on Instagram, you’re in the right place.

I’d eat that! I, too, am a bit more partial to salty than sweet. I do like caramel a lot.
