On our minds this morning

I (Jeni) saw this awesomely hilarious video yesterday, and every time I watch it, I laugh and nod in agreement!  If you’re a Millennial, please don’t be offended-  it’s all in good fun. 🙂  Ever since turning 40, I’ve been thinking about the way I grew up, and the way the kids of today grow up.  Such a different world! I love been a Generation X kid, and adore the memories I have of the influences we were able to have.  I don’t know if I could survive being a Millennial!  We played outside, not hours and hours of video games.  We rode our bikes to friends houses to say “hi”, instead of sending a text.  We said, “yes ma’am” out of respect, and when our parents counted to “3,” we didn’t roll our eyes – we complied with their request.  I’m happy I grew up in that kind of generation.

Hope this video makes you giggle!  ENJOY!

What big differences do you notice in the generations?

kombucha tea and pineapples

I, Clo, hate to admit but I am getting older. I’m soon-to-be in my mid 20s and yes, that’s old. I’m starting to get aches and getting more tired than usual and even seeing some grey hairs. Of course, planning a wedding, working 2 jobs, going back to school (another story for later), trying to remain calm and everything else in this crazy world has left me insane. Lately, I’ve been getting mini anxiety attacks and fret it’s just going to get worse as I get older — especially when kids come in the mix — so I need to buckle down now and work on managing my stress levels. That’s why a friend introduced me to Kombucha. Kombucha is any of a variety of fermented, lightly effervescent sweetened black or green tea drinks that are commonly intended as functional beverages for their supposed health benefits. Kombucha has live bacteria and yeast, which is mainly why it’s so effective when it comes to its benefits: improved digestion, weight loss, increased energy, cleansing and detoxification, immune support, reduced joint pain, cancer prevention and much more. So I’ve been on a one-a-day Kombucha Tea diet. This bottle in the picture is from a local source. Brewed in small batches. Although it’s around $5.99/bottle, I’ve been feeling much better and happier with my life. Plus, pairing it with some fresh Li hing mui pineapples just hit the spot! It’s truly worth the price when it comes to my heath and wellbeing.

Have you tried Kombucha? What’s your thoughts?

monday modivation

I, Clo, am all about #MondayMotivation! Check out this quote that I fell in love with. It’s so true. No matter what, as long as you are even a little better today than you were yesterday, that is ENOUGH! And this counts in so many levels. From being better at school, in a relationship, overcoming an addiction, work, self esteem issues. No matter what life brings you as long as you look at it and make sure that you get a little better each day. That’s enough.

5 year anniversary of Bin Laden Death

It’s been 5 years since Osama bin Laden was killed.  Wow.  Time sure flies, right?  The terrorist activity hasn’t stopped, because each time we apprehend or kill a leader, there’s another one waiting in the wings to take over.  However, this guy right here – over 20 years of terrorism.  I’m not about celebrating the death of a human being – but I AM about celebrating the end of an evil reign.

Read more HERE.

Do you remember when his death was on the news?

CHLOE’S THOUGHTS ON THIS ARTICLE: Working for a newspaper, I remember all the back-and-forth we had with him. It was quite ridiculous if you ask me. The day they announced he was killed it was joy to many. I recall printing in huge letters “HE IS DEAD.” I then remember many questioning if he really was dead. It seems though that no matter what leaders or person of power the government kills, another one is right behind him. And it’s sad to say that I don’t think it’s ever going to stop.

  1. Good morning everyone! How refreshing to wake up to morning coffee this morning. I got to sleep in this morning, and it’s 6a.m. I know to most people that’s not sleeping in, but when we get up at 3:30a.m. every morning on work days, 6a.m. is heavenly! I have missed morning coffee so much! When life gets crazy it’s the one thing that I can count on to always be there.

I managed to squeak into Generation X being born in 1981, and since most of my friends are in the 40-80 range, that’s a good thing. I worked with younger kids for years, so the generation differences were definitely apparent to me. I think the biggest difference that always hits me in the face and stopped me in my tracks is the level of respect that kids have for each other and for adults. We wouldn’t cross our own parents, but we wouldn’t cross anyone else’s parents either and we wouldn’t dream of disrespecting our teachers either. If we did, we got grounded, and being sent to your room was awful because it meant you couldn’t go outside, ride your bike, hang out with your friends, or have weekend sleepovers that we had every single weekend. I learned to type on an electric typewriter, learned how to make “animation” using Hypercard, learned about typhoid from playing the Oregon Trail, learned how to use DOS, and believed that Mac would some day rule the world. VCR’s were entertainment instead of DVD’s, and I loved Friday nights to go to Blockbuster as quick as I could after school to get scary movies that we could watch during weekend sleepovers, Netflix would have made life so much easier, laughing. I think some things are better now, and some things are worse, just like every generation.

I’ve never tried Kombucha, I’m definitely not adventurous when it comes to eating. And speaking of adventurous eating, I could never do the Dinner In The Sky, I would be freaking from the height level. I don’t even like to fly. I like to keep my feet firmly planted on the ground, and even Ferris Wheels make my stomach do flips, laughing.

On my mind today is learning how many different things from fabric to plastic have polyester in them. I’ve recently become allergic to polyester and if I’m around it, I break out in hives. We thought when we got rid of bedding and fabric, I’d be fine, but instead, I kept having allergic reaction after allergic reaction. We quickly learned that polyester is in almost everything from pressed wood to types of plastic, and wow is it hard finding alternatives. Some manufacturers will claim that their products are made of one thing, and then we find out that they aren’t, and it makes things really difficult. We are getting there one day at a time with a lot of craziness along the way.

    Have a great day everyone!

Good morning! We are happy to be back to Morning Coffee, again, too! 🙂 So happy you look forward to it!

Sleeping in DEFINITELY sounds nice! Hopefully you got some great sleep!

YES! I love what you said about the generations. You’re right. Respect!! That’s a HUGE difference I’ve noticed. Seems like Millennials just don’t CARE about respect – or have a different idea bout what it really is. Oregon Trail…. HAHA! I remember that!

I couldn’t do the dinner in the sky thing, either – but wish I could say I would!

Dang – hopefully that allergy can get under control! I’m so sorry, that sounds pretty frustrating!

      Have a wonderful day, Sarah!

  2. Those summer sandals are super cute. I can’t believe its been 5 years since Bin Laden. I remember it like it was yesterday. Crazy.

  3. Two things:

I fully support bacon awareness. I make sure to remember bacon as often as possible.
The other thing is that my sister has made it a point of making sure that her kids don’t become eye rolling little snots, and it’s actually proven to be quite rare among her kids’ peers.

  7. Such a fun post! My son would LOVE those Star Wars toys! Also, loving those mint sandals!

  8. Right? I am not quite 40, but I am close and tell you that I look at many younger ones today and all of their entitlement issues and I wanna puke. LOL… I love your morning coffee rants. Thanks for sharing

  9. I love this video. I will have to share it with my friends so they can have a laugh to. I love finding funny videos inline.
