On our minds this morning

That just happened

I fell.  No.  I (Jeni) never “just fall.”  I ate it – HARD.  If you’ve been getting to know us with our weekday Morning Coffee chats, then you know that I am ridiculously clumsy.  I don’t just trip.  As I go down, I take at least one major appliance, a random toddler, any beverages within 10 feet of me, and anything made of glass, down with me.  It’s always a mess.  And this morning, it was a HOT mess.  Here’s what happened:  I didn’t put my vacuum away last night.  Call me lazy.  It’s heavy and the cord wasn’t wrapping up in a timely manner, so I said, “Meh,” and left it in the hallway.  I left it at the end of the hallway, where the wood floor meets the carpeted living room.  So, this morning, my bright-eyed, bushy-tailed self was singing “Smooth Criminal” to myself, and doing a few Michael Jackson moves, when my foot – or some appendage (I really don’t know – it all happened so quickly), caught on the cord.  I went flying.  When I say I “flew,” – I mean, I FLEW.  I caught AIR.  My next conscious moment was me, on my side, with my cheek dragging across the carpet.  I ended up about 6 feet away from the vacuum, on the carpet, on my face.  After I stopped laughing hysterically at myself, I got up and looked at the damage.  Rug burn on my cheek. Rug burn….on my CHEEK.  Who does that!!?  Good thing I didn’t have my morning coffee yet, right?  This is why my friends call me, “Grace.”  I need to just live in a bubble….or one of those hamster balls.  Think they have human-sized ones on Amazon? 🙂

Good morning. *ouch*

Are you clumsy?  What’s your best “that just happened” story!?

Somedays we just have some of those days where everything from start to finish goes wrong. Yup.. you guessed it. That was my day yesterday. Every single step, every turn I, Clo, made something went wrong. From me losing a dozen posts I scheduled on my site, to me getting a pounding headache, to me messing up at work.. Every little thing. Why do we have days where everything seems to go wrong? It’s like pretty please just balance things out so that I have some bad, some good things happen so it doesn’t seem like everything is going to hell. So I’m laying awake, staring at the ceiling hoping and praying that today is a better day. I am just going to suck it up and be thankful for what I have.. what I do having going right. Atleast I’m alive right? Look on the bright side and move on. There are people out there with much bigger problems that what I have right now. Just think positive.. On the bright side: I have my Mexico trip coming up in just a few days and today is my last day at work before my vacation. So that’s good news!

Update a few minutes after finishing sharing my bad day with you guys:

Bath & Body Works

Sometimes even a little fairy may help brighten your day. As mine did.. As I got home last night wanting to hit the bed and hope tomorrow was better I saw that I had a box at the door, it was from a mystery sender. A beautiful little Bath & Body Works gift set. It made my day so much better. <3

Do you have days where nothing goes right?

drinking water all day

See that bad boy?  That, my friends, is my water cup.  It’s more of a trough, I guess, because it holds 64oz!  I bought it at Walgreens one day last Summer, and absolutely love it.  I fill it probably 5 times a day, and use a straw to drink the water out of it.  I don’t even have to THINK about drinking water all day, because I habitually pick up my water cup now!  I may not be all that healthy….but I definitely get my gallon o’ water a day!

What's cooking in our kitchens

I originally made this posting when football season started but it’s still the perfect thing to make for those family parties, game days and just a night in. We love this dip, it’s super easy to make and is outright yummy!

Individual 7-Layer Dip

  • Serves: 8
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • 9 ounces Sabra Mediterranean Herb Greek Yogurt
  • 10 ounces Sabra Classic Hummus
  • pinch of salt
  • pinch of paprika
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 2 roasted red peppers, halved then diced
  • feta cheese, crumbled
  • 2 tablespoons minced flat leaf parsley
  • Kalamata olives, chopped for garnish (optional)
  • 1 bag pita chips

In individual-serving cups, dollop Greek yogurt evenly over bottom of each cup.

Top layer with portion of hummus, followed by another dollop of Greek yogurt. Sprinkle with salt and paprika.

Top each cup with handful of tomatoes, roasted red peppers and feta cheese.

Garnish with parsley and olives. Serve with pita chips.

  1. OMG ouch! Sorry, that looks like that it hurts… but funny story though hahah! I love your water jug! I just bought a 48 oz bottle on Amazon last week and I’ve been using it to drink more water. I usually suck with drinking water. I completely forget about it and drink like 2 cups a day, which is way less than I should be drinking. But the bottle I bought has helped a ton since I can motivate myself to drink more with it. That’s crazy how you fill FIVE times a day… keep that up! I wouldn’t even be able to drink ONE of those a day!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

HAHA! It was pretty funny! And YES – I just keep drinking and drinking, especially during the hot months here in Texas! You should drink more when you get your big cup!!

  2. Rug burn on your cheek, yeah I’ve never had that one. I do have those clumsy moments, all the time. Blame it on being top heavy, but my feet seem to think they belong anywhere but on the ground and usually end up underneath me. My best “that just happened story” would have to be the time that I was in our bathroom (think small closet that happens to have a shower, bathtub, and toilet in it). Anyways, I was getting up after doing my business and I fell forward, my glasses flew off, and I didn’t know where they went. I screamed for help because my boyfriend was in the other room. He came to help me, and I started to stand up, and saw my broken glasses were on the floor, and the best part was that I had a glasses print on my rear end, seriously an imprint of the frames, the lenses, everything. I wasn’t laughing since I didn’t have spare glasses at the time, but my boyfriend sure was. He took a picture of the imprint on my rear end, before he helped me the rest of the way up. Yeah that’s love for you, finish laughing and take a photo before you help your girlfriend up.

I definitely have the days where nothing goes right, no matter how hard I try to avoid them. Sunday was one of those days. I was delighted to be leaving the hotel and going back home after our camping out due to the renovation. I was even more delighted that we were getting rain in the middle of a drought. But then my back started hurting, and it was Sciatica, and it’s the worst case I have ever had, likely from lifting our luggage at the hotel when we had to change rooms unexpectedly. So I said, I’m not going to let my back get me down. Then we get home and all of the grass and trees are gone, that’s great, I’m allergic to grass, so I didn’t really care. But then it started to rain, and the soil that was all dug up everywhere started stinking and my allergies started acting up, and even inside with the windows and doors shut tight I’m coughing, sneezing, and my eyes are draining. So we run to Walmart to get groceries and their refrigerated section had a power outage, and the milk didn’t come in, so they are out of milk, like completely out of milk, and we’ve been away from home 10 days and there is no milk in the house. So after Walmart, granted my back still hurting, we went to Target, who has a big sign that they are out of milk. So we end up at 7-11 because nothing else is open that early in the morning and we pay $4.75 for a gallon of milk (YIKES!) and we head back home. I go to refill my prescriptions on Target’s website and their website is down, and as of today, it’s still down for ordering prescriptions, and I spent 2 hours on the phone with Target for the higher up IT guy to tell me they know it’s broke but they don’t know how to fix it. So we finally sit down to watch a movie, Halloween 2, the only break in the day that we’ve had after a crazy morning, and my boyfriend feels something weird on his couch, that felt like sand, so we pause the movie, during the opening credits, and he stands up and his couch bed is covered in termite shavings, and we look at the wall and there is a new termite hole (we’ve had them for awhile but hadn’t seen them in 6 months since the last treatment) and there is this huge termite peeking out of the hole, like taunting us, like haha I moved in while you were gone.

Normally when I have a bad day, I just suck it up and deal with it. But when it gets really bad and I just can’t take it anymore, and all of my friends are on my last nerve, I call my best friend. And she is zany, and crazy like I am, and she always makes me smile and makes me laugh and agrees with me that life sucks and is unfair, and makes me realize that the next minute could suck even more, so just to laugh about it. I generally have ice cream along with those conversations and somehow the combination of my best friend and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream fixes everything and anything that is wrong in my life at that moment.

Viewmaster! OMG I loved that thing as a child. I remember that I had a disc from the San Diego Zoo, Sesame Street, and so many other themes that I can’t remember now (though some of them were Mickey Mouse and friends if my memory serves me correct). One year I got a projector thingy that put the images on the wall, it really took Viewmaster to the next level, which was so cool, because then my friends could look at the same reel I was looking at. It was like the first projector that I ever owned and even though the image on the wall was tiny, it was much larger than what you saw in the Viewmaster.

I love your water cup, though I don’t think I would be able to lift it with my Fibro. I’m still in the waste the worlds resources crowd and drink single serve bottle water. Yeah I know it’s unhealthy, yeah I know it’s bad for the environment, but it’s so stinking easy. We have a massive collection of bottles with various levels all over the counter that people abandon when they get room temperature. We are moving on Saturday (starting to anyway) and my goal is no more clutter on the kitchen counters, including the water bottle collection, so that we can actually use the counters, as dare I say, counters? LOL
    Have a great day everyone!

  4. Robin Rue (@massholemommy) Reply

My poor oldest son is incredibly clumsy, too. He is one of two people that I know who can fall just standing there. The other is my mother.

    • Robin,
I hear you on that one! I always love the quote that says “It takes real talent to choke on air, fall up stairs, and trip over nothing, I have that talent”. LOL

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

HAHAHA! Too cute, Robin! And Sarah, I love that saying!

  5. I’m sorry. But I got a little chuckle from your clumsy story because it reminded me of what I did at work one day. I was sitting at my desk and I left the right bottom drawer open. To the right of my desk is a 2 way radio where my boss would call me sometimes from. He called, I forgot the drawer was open, I hit it with my shin, was airborne, landed against the large rolling copy machine, it went flying across the room and some how I ended up in the closet where the radio was at. That was 20 years ago and I still have a scar on my shin from that. We all have our clumsy days.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Don’t be sorry, girl – it’s a funny story, for sure! And OUCH! HAHAHA! That is a great clumsy story!!! Crazy you still have a scar, too!

  6. Elizabeth O. Reply
