On our minds this morning

Life. I, Clo, always find myself pondering about life. About marriage, kids, death, work, friendship, money, relationships; the list goes on. Where live will be in 5 years, 10, 50. I know life is going to end someday and things are going to happen that will change me forever but it’s hard to live somedays. Heartaches, decisions, love. Life for me atleast always seems to be an uphill battle and it’s forever challenging. Who to choose, what to do, where to take life. Ugh. Sometimes I just want to lock myself in a room and scream. I’m sure we can all relate. We all have our pain, our challenges, our rollercoaster moments. But one thing I learned and one thing that keeps me going is LOVE. No matter where life takes you, there is always someone right there to talk to, someone that’ll listen. You are truly never alone, no matter how much it may feel like it sometimes.

You may not know this, but I care about every one of you. My readers are my light at the end of the tunnel. It gives my life a purpose, because no matter if life goes to hell, I will always have the right to write and speak my mind. My website is my serenity, my peaceful moment, my time to breathe and just be who I am. No judgement, no worries, just me, my keyboard and a whole world reading. Life will make you and break you sometimes. Sometimes you will just have to scream and cry. Sometimes you’ll just have to take the day off and eat ice cream watching TV alone in the dark. Find your serenity, find something that makes you feel calm, peaceful. Just take time to breathe. Monday made 2 years since my grandfather’s funeral. He left us unexpectedly due to cancer. There isn’t a day where I don’t miss him. I could never picture life without him and now he is gone. He was like a father to me. This is one of the rollercoasters I was speaking of. Somedays it hits me harder than others. Today it hit me good. I wrote a blog post a month ago speaking about his death and the lessons I’ve learned behind it. You can read it here.

What do you do to get over the loss of a loved one? What is your serenity?

Good morning, my pretties!  I (Jeni) woke up today, wondering what YOU are thinking about.  What’s on your mind today?  I just realized that I might sound a little like a stalker saying that….but it’s true!  Chloe and I love reading the comments every morning, and finding out what you’re up to each day- in our busy lives, it’s honestly really fun for us to interact with you, and hear from you!  But….we want MORE!  Since we can’t invite you guys to Fort Worth or Hawaii for coffee every morning (if you stop by, please bring baked treats), we sit and have our coffee with you here.  We’d love to see what you’re up to!

Send us your pictures of what’s on your mind, of your “Morning Coffee Selfie,” your kids Halloween costumes, jack-o-lanterns, random pictures you want to share, funny memes or videos that made you giggle, what you had for dinner last night (we love recipes!)….  anything!  Email us at thebinderladies@gmail.com (put MY MORNING COFFEE in the subject) and we’ll feature your photos, so you can share a little more of yourself with us and the rest of the Morning Coffee readers!

To start us off, Kyle (our recipe master here at The Binder Ladies) wanted to share a picture of his ferret, Prince Francis.  Prince was super hyper (as always) this morning, and really playful!  Look at that little face!  He doesn’t really sit still enough for a portrait-type picture, but he sure is a sweetie!

A few of our favorite things

Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream! OMG. I, Clo, am totally in love with this. It’s just the right of chocolate chips, cookie dough and vanilla ice cream. Ben & Jerry’s have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember.

What’s your favorite flavor of ice cream?

Matti's hideout

Last night, this little Princess, Matti, decided to make her own kitty fort.  My comforter was hanging over the side, and my fluffy blue pillow had fallen onto the ground.  She hung out in there, and would shoosh me away with her paw when I tried to deconstruct her little hideout.  It was pretty dang cute, so I just left her there to play, until about 15 minutes later when she got bored and in search of a shadow to chase.  🙂

What's for dinner tonight

Sometimes you are just lazy and want to call it a night. So you run over to the new Jack in the Box that just opened last month and grab their new Homestyle Ranch Chicken Club. Yum yum! I, Clo, am not a total fast food fan but when I heard we were getting a Jack in the Box I was beyond excited! Winston and I went to Jack in the Box the first time last night and I tried this chicken club. It was so good. The ranch sauce was to die for and the chicken was crispy and made to perfection. The bacon was crisp and the bun was just right. I’ve never had a fast food sandwich taste this good in my life! This is now my favorite chicken club! Have you tried it yet? What do you think of Jack in the Box?

Texas BBQ Sauces and Rubs

Tonight, I’m (Jeni) making beef ribs!  I just don’t know whether to use a sauce or a rub on them.  I need your advice!  Which of these Texas BBQ Sauces and Rubs sounds best to you on ribs??

  1. It’s ironic that you would post about dealing with the loss of a loved one Clo. My boyfriend and I just lost both of our dad’s five weeks apart on the exact same day of the week. His dad was 93 years old and a WWII veteran. My dad was 74 years old and a Vietnam veteran. They were the two greatest men that I have ever met in my life (not including my boyfriend of course) and I learned so much from both of them. The ironic thing is that my boyfriend took my dad’s death harder than he did his own dad’s death, I guess because his dad went so suddenly (had a stroke and died three weeks later) whereas my dad was sick for years (Alzheimer’s) and we watched him slowly suffer and wanted to ease his suffering.

Everyone deals with grief differently, and there is no right or wrong way to deal with it. For me, it’s been remembering the things that made both men special, telling stories about them, seeing them in other people we see on the street, paying closer attention to the elderly who may be alone and need help, and so forth. I didn’t attend my dad’s funeral and my boyfriend’s dad didn’t have a funeral, and I think that was the best decision I could have made. I have nothing but happy, peaceful memories of them both, and that’s the way I want to keep them alive in my hearts forever. Learning from them, and passing on their legacy to others is the single most important way that I have honored them both for the terrific men that they were. When I have down days, I usually drown myself in ice cream, call up my best friend just to chat, read my Bible, listen to music, and just enjoy living in that moment, since tomorrow is promised to no one.

On my mind this morning, it’s another beautiful albeit hot day here in San Diego and we are still camping out at a local hotel waiting for them to finish stinking up our apartment complex with the current renovation. We are enjoying every minute of it, now if only we didn’t get a bill when all was said and done, it would be just about perfect, lol. I’m working on my Amazon reviews today, helping my best friend out, and just relaxing. Our lives have been so chaotic for the past few months with both dads sick, and the burden has been lifted off, and now I just feel free, free to enjoy life, free to get away from nursing homes and sick people, and free to just enjoy everything life has to offer. It’s a refreshing feeling for sure.

It’s hilarious you mentioned Ben and Jerry’s Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, as that’s what we had for dinner last night here at the hotel. The hotel gift shop sells it, and we had a big lunch, so my boyfriend and I split a carton of the ice cream last night. Now that’s what I call dinner! We love Jack in the Box here in Southern California, I love their Buttery Jack with the garlic and bacon, it’s delicious (I cannot remember the name). We are Jack Daniels fans around here, so I would definitely go with the Jack Daniels Sweet BBQ Sauce recipe, that’s one that I need to add to my recipe collection for sure.

    Have a great day everyone!

We are both so sorry about those incredible losses in your life, Sarah! Our hearts go out to you, but you sure do have a great attitude about it!
And you are totally right about everyone dealing with grief differently!!!
SO happy for you that you get a “break” today! Enjoy that refreshing feeling and let it rejuvenate you!!
Now THAT, my dear, is a GREAT breakfast! HAHAHAHA!!!!!!
      Have a wonderful day, Sarah!!!!

    • Sarah,
I’m so sorry for your back to back losses. We had the same thing happen when my grandfather passed away. It was my uncle then my grandpa then my other uncle. I felt ao bad for my grandma, losing her husband and both brothers all in 6 months. All due to cancer. It’s tough.

I’m glad you enjoy cookie dough ice cream, it’s so good right! 🙂

      • Clo,
Sorry to hear about your back to back losses as well. It’s almost like the celebrities things, they seem to come in waves or groups. And yes, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream rocks. I did eat a real breakfast this morning (with bacon of course), so I think the ice cream for dinner last night is excusable. One cancels out the other, right? LOL

Wow, those leggings are mighty bold. I am not sure if they are right for me, but maybe younger girls would rock them more than I would.

    • Robin, they do seem like they are more for younger women, girls. I’m not sure if I’d use them but the girls love them!

  3. Hahha! I got a big laugh out of that Mummy cartoon joke. LOL I can’t believe Halloween is literally just days away. It promises to be a weekend full of spooky fun!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

You are so right, Jessica! It’s definitely going to be a FUN WEEKEND!!!!! I love that it’s FINALLY on a weekend!

  4. Those leggings are awesome. I love the graphic about Walmart bringing out the Christmas stuff! That’s too funny and oh.. so true!

It’s definitely tough to deal with loss. I for one have a hard time moving on. It’s so nice to know that we help you get through your day. I love Ben and Jerry’s!!! Good to know I’m not the only one. Those leggings are adorable!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

It’s so hard, and I think anyone would have a hard time moving on, for sure! HAHA! Ben & Jerry’s fans all over the place around here!

  6. Those leggings are so cool. I’m going to have to show those to my daughter. Your kitty looks so cozy in that fort!

  7. Love those leggings! I’m not even into patterned leggings, but I love those Christmas/Nordic prints. Might have to order a pair or two…great deal!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

YES! Everyone seems to love them – and I’m even gonna pick up a pair of the nordic ones (and I don’t wear leggings)!

  8. fortunately I have not lost a loved one in a long time. My dad died when I was 18 and that was super sad, but I was so young and didn’t know him as an adult. I don’t eat ice cream – dairy intolerance.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Hopefully you won’t have to deal with loss any time in the near future!

  9. Those leggings are so cute. I will need to pass this on my sister she would love this

  10. Ben & Jerry’s is pretty good, BUT nothing beats Blue Bell! I’m so ready to have it back in Texas!

Clo, my condolences to you. I just recently lost my grandfather the 11th of this month. It was so sudden. It’s not easy but I know that he’s in a better place.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

      HAHA! YES BLUE BELL! Woohoo!!!!!

Our hearts go out to you, too, Noemarie!

  11. the leggings and the shoes would be perfect for my niece this holiday season! I love the ferret. They are fun to have!

  12. Love the leggings. I have some wild ones myself and just might have to add to them 🙂

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Ohhhhh I haven’t heard of that! i’ll have to check it out! Thank you!

  13. It is hard to get over the loss of a loved one. I finally let go of my gram after I saw her in a dream that seemed so real. I still miss her though.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Awwwww – I have a picture of my gram by my bed, so that every night, I can kiss her good night. Miss her, a lot, so I feel where you’re coming from!

  14. I am still trying to get over my grandfather who passed this summer. He passed while I was on a business trip and I never got to say good bye.

  15. CourtneyLynne Reply
