On our minds this morning

olaf-snow-storm-150x150

Yawn! It’s my Saturday.. yay 🙂 So Winston and I, (Chloe) decided we are going to watch the movie, “Goosebumps.” I am super excited. They have a 7:30pm showing, so we’ll go to that one. It has been super hot in the mornings. This morning it was 82 with a ‘feel like’ of 91. Talk about yuck! Plus, we have Hurricane Olaf heading our way. Yes.. our weather people named a storm after the Frozen snowman. It’s quite funny if you ask me. Olaf is scheduled to not directly hit the island but bring rain, wind and this yucky humid weather our way for the rest of the week.

sushi

Last night, l (Jeni) went to sushi for dinner.  If you didn’t have Morning Coffee with us yesterday,  you missed out on me dreading going to a sushi place, and HATING sushi and seafood.  Jason’s birthday surprise sushi dinner was awesome, though!  He loved it, had a full belly, and was very happy – so that made it all worth it!  I ended up getting chicken teriyaki, which was pretty good.  I also tried one of Jason’s rolls….I have no idea what it was called, but it had some kind of stringy fishy stuff inside, with avocado on top (which I did enjoy), and then a dark, bacon-looking thing on the very top of it.  It wasn’t bacon.  It wasn’t bacon at ALL.  It was EEL.  That broke my heart a little bit, because you can’t mess with a girl’s love of bacon.  But, I survived, and he was a very happy man for his birthday.  So, all in all….SUCCESS!!!

How was your morning?
Have you ever been through a hurricane!?

disneycollection

If you’re a Disney lover, such as myself, (Chloe) then you’ll find this post pretty awesome. Disney is set to release their Legacy Collection Box Set, a 12-album, 28-disc collectors’ box gift set. They have all of the Disney favorites such as, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio, Cinderella, The Lion King, Fantasia and so much more. I really do hope someone gifts this to me under my Christmas tree this year. It will be released Nov. 13 with pre-order available now.

Bacon Hot Chocolate

Bacon Hot Chocolate.  You’re either squishing your face and saying, “EW!” or your eyebrows just raised and you’re thinking, “MMMMM!”  If you’re a bacon fan like me (Jeni), and love hot chocolate, you should definitely try this stuff!  I was given this as a gift from Dee last year, and now I’ll be gifting some to bacon fanatic friends this year!  YUMMY!  It’s salty and sweet with the right touch of BACON!

Mr. Bar-B-Q Gift ideas

I’m (Jeni) so excited to have received these Mr. Bar-B-Q items for a review for the Holiday Gift Guide this year (stay tuned – it’s coming soon)!   Kyle’s step-dad is going to flip when he gets them for Christmas!  The apron becomes a bag that holds everything inside, and the awesome grill has 2 different sides for grilling.  Loving this right now!

Are you a Disney fan, looking forward to this awesome release?

What's for dinner tonight

I’m, (Chloe) not a huge Mexican food fan. Cheese tends to give me tummy aches and it’s just not a pretty picture. (Which kind of sucks, because I love cheese and dairy products.) However, I like hamburger, so Winston and I decided we were gonna attempt to do taco night. Tacos are pretty tasty, I just don’t like all of the lettuce and beans in the taco that some places put it in. I love lettuce in my salads, just not in my sandwiches or tacos. So, I have the hamburger seasoning, hamburger, wrap, cheese, tomato sauce and peppers. I’m going to just separate them in bowls and let us pick and add what we choose. Does anyone have any suggestions to make this taco night go any better? If so, I’d love the help.

coffeecake

Ok, it isn’t Sunday (and isn’t even morning anymore) – but I’m (Jeni) definitely making this tonight, to treat the boys with in the morning!  This Sunday Morning Coffee Cake recipe is my oldest sister’s, and it’s absolutely delicious!  It has just the right amount of sweetness and creaminess in it – YUM!  If you think you might like to try it this weekend, bookmark this recipe!

What’s on your plate this evening?

As you probably already know I love cats. That’s why when I get bored or sad I love watching cat videos to cheer up. I just found out that my great-grandma isn’t doing so well. She’s 92 and has alzheimer’s. So, I’m going to share one with you. It helped me laugh! If you have any favorite cat videos feel free to share the link below and I’ll check it out. Video here.

  1. Jeni, bacon hot chocolate sounds awful! What a waste of good hot chocolate! Glad to hear that your dinner was pleasant last night!

Chloe, homemade taco seasoning is so easy to make, and tastes much better then store bought! 🙂 Best part is you probably have all the seasonings at home, it’s all pretty common ingredients. Cumin, paprika (smoked is best), garlic powder, chili powder, salt, pepper. Chili flakes and/or cayenne pepper for a little extra kick if you’d like. Everyone in my house LOVES it, so I use a generous amount!

HAHAHA!!!!! You are too funny! It’s an acquired taste, for sure!
Thanks! Dinner was great and he was pretty dang happy!

Thanks so much for the taco seasoning idea! That’s brilliant!

Bacon hot chocolate? I don’t think I could do it, but my husband would be all over it. I am going to have to get him some.

  3. I love bacon with and in any and everything I’ve tried it in. I’d be bold enough to try bacon hot chocolate at least once to see what it taste like. But it’s sure hard to imagine, lol.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

I didn’t know what to expect, but it is pretty delicious! I didn’t like it with marshmallows or whipped cream, though….lol

  4. NOT BACON!!!! That’s all that matters. I’m not a huge sushi fan either, not a fan at all. Good luck with Hurricane Olaf! I’ve been told a Hurricane should be named after me. Hurricane Noemarie???? Kinda perfect!!!!!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

NOT BACON IS RIGHT! HAHAHA! Hurrican Noemarie – that’s awesome!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

*cheers* to coffee, bacon and hot chocolate!!

I would like a cup of that bacon hot chocolate please! The Mr. Bar-B-Q sounds like an awesome gadget for grilling. I enjoyed reading!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Thanks so much, Elizabeth! Come on over for some bacon hot chocolate! 🙂 And yes, the Mr. Bar-B-Q items are seriously so cool!

  7. Melinda Dunne Reply

Okay I am intrigued over the Bacon Hot Chocolate. The bad thing is I was thinking I bet that would be good with whip cream and maple syrup drizzled over it.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Hey now – maple syrup might just be kinda nice with the whipped cream! I should try that! Thanks!

  8. Morning coffee became an “evening power break” for me after an incredibly long day. Our whole apartment complex stinks right now, literally, from paint fumes, and we have evacuated to the Marriott hotel. There are worse places to be “stranded” I supposed, but since the day started at 3:30am, and it’s now 7pm, and we just finished dinner, I’m pretty tired. Kevin had a Caesar salad for dinner and I had the best quesadilla I’ve ever eaten, I don’t know if it was because I hadn’t eaten all day, because it was really that good, or because it was room service and someone else made it.

Eel and stringy fish stuff..yuck! It sounds like it should be part of one of Oscar the Grouch’s I love trash type of songs, haha, but that’s because I loathe fish, eel, and pretty much everything that swims. I’m glad Jason’s birthday was a success, wish him happy birthday from me!

I loved my See N Say as a kid, but I hated the pull string. Because I played with it all the time, the pull string took forever to go back into the toy. And the cow basically said “mmmmmmm—–ooooooooooooo—–ooooooo” like a broken record player rather than a cow. The lever is awesome! They have pages now too, that you can flip, that usually make even more sounds. Kids these days, so spoiled, haha.

I love, love, love all things Disney. Since I already have all but one disc in the legacy collection, I won’t be picking it up. I’ve heard you can order individual discs from the collection as well, so I’ll likely check that out and see if I can score The Aristocats, the only one of the titles that I am missing.

Bacon Hot Chocolate…eww, good thing I ate already or I might not have an appetite. I cannot even fathom those two things together. It’s like the people who were deep frying bacon and dunking it in chocolate at the fair over the summer. It sounds like a really gross combination.

For tacos without cheese, I’ve been there because of my annatto allergy (yellow/orange food coloring that’s in everything, including cheese). I make “street tacos” using a recipe that I found online (unfortunately I don’t remember the site name). Anyways it uses chicken, chicken broth, taco seasoning, ginger, garlic powder, cumin, ground pepper, cilantro, onion, pico de gallo, tortillas, and limes. It makes a tasty taco, and you don’t miss the cheese in it at all. Wish I could remember the site or the recipe, I always just dump them together.

Tomorrow morning, life will return to normal. Hopefully.

Well, Sarah, we are still glad you joined us!! We are both so sorry to hear about your apartment and the hotel! BUT – on the bright note, that must have been a magical quesadilla!
It definitely sounds like an Oscar the Grouch song!!! HAHAHA! Birthday wish has been given, and he said, “Thank you very much!”
Lever vs. string = definitely spoiled kids nowadays!! HAHA!
OMG deep fried bacon with chocolate!? Sign me up!!! I would TOTALLY munch on that!
Thank you for the taco suggestion! That’s pretty cool!
Tomorrow is another day, and we hope it’s MUCH BETTER FOR YOU! xoxo

  9. Eel is the bacon of the sea. It is so delicious. I’m glad he enjoyed his birthday dinner.
