On our minds this morning

10436042_700567646683449_1545685228775301227_nI, (Chloe) have been very eager this morning as I wait for a phone call from a job I am hoping to get in Ontario, CA! I currently live in Hawaii and have been wanting to move for a while. Okay, okay, I know you’re probably thinking, “WHAT?! Why does this girl want to move from the most beautiful place on earth to California.” Well, I was born and raised on Kauai. It’s one of the smaller islands in the Hawaiian Island chain. I love it here, don’t get me wrong, but I just need some change. Sometimes I feel trapped. This island is only so big, and there isn’t much to see and do, when you’ve been here all your life. So this move is pretty exciting for me. Plus, I have a really good friend up in LA that I’m missing a lot! And if I move then that means I can road trip to meet your other Morning Coffee host, Jeni!

Have you ever been to Hawaii?  Let me know where you went, and what you thought of my little Island!

Bean the Troll

Gooooood morning, my lovies!  I (Jeni) had a pretty relaxing weekend the last 2 days, so I’m feeling nice and amped up for the week!  I wanted to introduce you to my little buddy, Bean!  He’s my Troll doll that sits eye-level to me when I’m working on the blog, and makes me smile every time I see him.  Do you remember Troll dolls from the 90’s!?  I always wanted those career Trolls like the doctor, the astronaut, the farmer (I don’t know if there was a farmer, but I’m picturing one is overalls and loving it!)…. but, my little Bean is good luck for me, and makes me smile, so I’ll just be happy with him! He’s one of those “little things” that brightens my day, every day!

Do you have a good luck charm?  What little things brighten your day!?

I (Jeni) heard it was snowing in New York.  SNOWING!!!  Minus the hurricanes, I’m a little jealous of New York’s weather, lately. I’m ready for some snow, for sure!  It was a hot Summer here in Fort Worth, TX, and although the temps are starting to cool down (80’s now!), I heard about the NY snow, and immediately got jealous.  Farmer’s Almanac predicts a colder than normal Winter for this region, and they’re usually pretty spot on….so hopefully that means we’ll get some SNOW, too!  If I thought it would help, I would stomp my foot and yell, “It’s not fair!!!”

What is the weather doing in your area?  Are you looking forward to snow this year?

A few of our favorite things

12166736_944682525605292_337788197_nWho doesn’t love chocolate? I, (Chloe) know I do! It’s tasty, yummy, pretty much a ‘natural’ dessert and has so many health benefits! That’s why every time me and my fiancé,Winston dine at this amazing restaurant, Dukes, which sits right on Nawiliwli Bay, I always be sure to order a Hula Pie. It’s this HUGE slice of vanilla ice cream with macadamia nuts, chocolate syrup, whip cream on a oreo crust. Talk about delicious, right!

What’s your favorite dessert!?  Let us know in the comments!

Kiss Naturals DIY Lip Balm Kit

Here at TBL, Sarina and I (Jeni) are working super hard to put together our Holiday Gift Guide for 2015!  Stay tuned for that, plus some great giveaways, starting in early November!  One of the awesome products we reviewed is for this amazing, all natural company called Kiss Naturals.  They make DIY kits with natural ingredients, so you can feel good about giving them to your kids.  This lip balm kit is SO COOL, and we’re super excited to work with them again this year!  Check out this review on the lip balm!

Is this something you would try, or get for your kids?

Dinosaur Origami

If you have a Half Priced Books store around you, you know how excited I (Jeni) am to go there and scope out the clearance section!  I bought this fun Origami Dinosaurs kit for only $3 yesterday!  I was pretty excited, and am even more anxious to get to start making some cool paper dinos!

Have you scored a great deal on clearance lately?  Tell us about it!

What's for dinner tonight

I, (Chloe) work fulltime as a designer/editor at our local newspaper here. So it’s pretty tough to come home at a decent hour and prepare dinner. That’s why I love using my crockpot. I prepare everything the night before and in the morning I just throw it in the crockpot. Once I get home, dinner is served! One of my favorite dishes is a Italian dish, that I’m sure most of us love. My mama and Winston loves it too! It’s really simple to make and is super delicious. Here’s how to make my super simple, Italian Parmesan: Take 1 lb of boneless skinless chicken breast and toss it in some beaten eggs; then dip it in some Italian breadcrumbs seasoning. Place your chicken in the bottom of a lightly greased crock pot. Layer the chicken with 1 can of your favorite red/white sauce and then top with shredded parmesan cheese. Cook on low for 4-5 hours. Serve with noodles, garlic bread or some dinner rolls. Delish!

Beef & Bacon Chili

As long as the weather keeps cooling down, I (Jeni), will keep using the crock pot more and more!  This easy recipe for Beef & Bacon Chili will fill your belly with yummy delightfulness, and make your family wonder when you became Martha Stewart in the kitchen!

Morning Giggles

My, (Chloe) cats are totally hilarious sometimes. Last night my cat, Delilah got trapped in a bunch of our store bags. She just looked up at us with her cute big eyes, demanding us to help her out. See her nails are way too long, we need to get them cut, but our groomer is out of town. Thankfully she gets back on Wednesday!

Halloween is almost here!

Halloween is almost here!

My husband and I were JUST talking about going to Hawaii. I can’t even imagine getting to live in paradise…and wanting to move from it LOL 🙂

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

HA! That’s too cool! Where are you thinking of visiting!? I guess when you live in paradise, it isn’t much of a paradise after a while, right? Hard to imagine, though!!

    • Robin, I know right. Lol. Once you’re here for a few weeks you’ll understand, I’m sure. But be sure to stop by and visit!

  2. Yeah, it’s crazy how it is already snowing in New York! Here in MI, we had a quick snow shower, but it only lasted about 5 minutes. I can’t believe it’s already snowing…too early! We’ve been getting slammed with snow the past 2 winters, I hope it is a mild winter this time! You can have all my snow 😉

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

HAHA! I would take the 5 minutes ANY day! I adore snow, and really wish it would start getting cold enough to snow here in Fort Worth!! I’ll take 3/4 of your snow, if that’s ok? I don’t wanna freak out the Texans with Michigan-type dumps of snow like you had last year! HAHAHA!

    • We’ll take some of that snow here in Southern California. I know it would help with our drought for sure.

      • Jeni Hawkins Reply

HAHA! Yes, Jason! Please send some to California, too!

  3. Good morning everyone and welcome Clo! It’s a beautiful day here in Southern California, it’s actually only supposed to be in the 70’s. They were originally predicting another another spell starting Tuesday, but now they are predicting 70’s-80’s all week which is a nice change from the 90’s-100’s we’ve been having lately, so fingers crossed that the weather man is right for once. You would think in a climate that is either hot or mild and rarely rainy that they could get the forecast right, but that rarely happens.

I’ve never been to Hawaii. I am a huge fan of the original Hawaii Five O. My grandmother and uncle both lived in Hawaii once. I remember when my grandmother found out that the building used in Hawaii Five O they actually just used the stairs of, and she was disappointed. My favorite thing about Hawaii is the chocolate covered macadamia nuts, heavenly. I remember when I was a little girl that my dad brought me back a shell horn, the only thing I wanted from Hawaii at the time.

I LOVED Troll dolls when I was younger. I also liked the plush ones that were much larger, I had a baby one with purple hair. While I don’t remember if there was a boy farm Troll or not, I do remember a girl farm troll. The girl had these purple overalls with polka dots on them, purple hair, a pink top underneath, and a weird little purple polka dot had that made her look more like an engineer than a farmer. My favorite one was the one dressed like Santa Claus, I looked forward to pulling him out every year around the holidays. While I don’t have a good luck charm, I do have lots of things around me that make me smile. My home is filled with Disney and Star Trek items, mine and my boyfriends two favorite things. When I’m having a bad day, I head straight for the It’s A Small World Hawaii Doll, she sings the It’s A Small World song both in English and Hawaiian. It always makes me smile.

My favorite dessert is the S’mores Brownie. It’s a recipe that I found on the Food Network and it takes both S’mores and brownies to a whole new level.

My day will be a pretty boring one, heading to a doctor’s appointment for a blood pressure re-check, and then likely getting caught up on some odds and ends. Got a lot of filing and paperwork taken care of yesterday, which was long overdue. I hope everyone has a great day!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Good morning, Sarah! Your comments always liven it up around here!!

Hopefully San Diego learns what FALL is SUPPOSED to be like, soon! 🙂

Those chocolate covered Macademia Nuts are SOOO GOOD! You are definitely right about that!

Your memory is incredible! You remember a farm girl Troll and what she was wearing!? That’s too cool! And your place sounds like a LOT of fun!

I’ll have to look up the S’mores Brownies…..sounds….SWEET and DELICIOUS! haha!

Have a wonderful day today! Hope everything goes well at the doctor!

    • Hi Sarah! Thanks for stopping my. I’ve heard the weather in California has been amazing recently. I can’t wait to move up there. Our weather has been so hot and muggy. You really should visit Hawaii. Plus, those chocolate macadamia nuts are heavenly!!

  4. Yes, I had an extensive Troll collection. Including some of the original Trolls from when my mom was growing up (she was born in 1955). Now that I’m in a relationship (marriage) he has one Troll from when he was little (he’s the same age as my mom) but his doesn’t have clothes. I definitely feel like the poor little Troll is neglected as it’s hair is matted and he doesn’t have clothes he must get cold in winter. I used to get Trolls for every holiday, in my Easter basket, Christmas stocking, advent calendar, etc. I remember the farm troll because my little cousin loved trains and he always used to “borrow” her (without asking) to drive his electric train.

  5. I loved my troll collection when I was a kid! I had at least a dozen.

So excited for the gift guide! It’s almost ready!!

  6. I’ve heard that Hawaii is crazy expensive, as far as groceries and gas and all. Not that California is much cheaper, but it will still be an awesome change. Good luck Chloe! And yeah, Halloween candy tends to get eaten before we have a chance to give it out here too!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

You’re so right, Carson! And yes – that’s definitely a truth here, too! HAHAHAH!!!!! CANDY!

    • Carson, Hawaii is super expensive. It’s really hard to make a living.. California at least is a bit easier as it has a better economy. Thanks!

  7. Hello from chilly Georgia. Speaking of which, I think we should trade places lol. I’ll head to Hawaii with my swimsuit in tow and you pack up your coats and scarfs and we’ll wave in passing. That troll make me lol. I remember the kids having to have them but I don’t think the grands have any.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Hi Terri! HAHA! Trading weather seems to be the big topic this morning! LOL Or at least trading locations, right? I love my little Troll doll, and think you should grab some for your grandkids, for sure!! 🙂

  8. Stephanie Keeping Reply

I would love to visit Hawaii sometime!! It’s one of my dream vacations.

  9. I remember having troll dolls, we use to collect them, my sister and I would always be in a competition to see who could collect more.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Haha! What a fun competition! Did you win in the end?

  10. This was quite fun to read. I enjoyed getting to know you ladies today. Thanks for sharing a part of your day and thoughts with us. Those cat pictures are adorable.

  11. I have not been to Hawaii yet, but it is on my list of places to vacation at. I would love some beef and bacon chili tonight.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Maybe some day you’ll get to go to Hawaii! If you make the Beef & Bacon Chili, please do let us know what you thought of it!

  12. Lisa Capozzi Reply

  13. Debbie Denny Reply

Sounds like a wild time. And Snow? Wow. You know they are making a new Troll movie!?!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

I didn’t know that! A TROLL MOVIE!? How COOL!

  14. Never been to Hawaii but I’d sure love to. Anything to escape our up coming winter. I hate hate hate the snow. I’d take TX in a heartbeat (and Hawaii of course) over WI. If the stars align, we will be moving to TX someday. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

  15. Hawaii! Such a paradise and relaxing place to visit. Were planning to visit there. Im so excited. Cant wait to see the beautiful attraction.

  16. Elizabeth O. Reply

I wish you good luck on that job you’ve been wanting. That sounds like a really awesome chili!

  17. The jewelry that I have from Satya feels like a good luck charm in many ways becuase it all has a specific intention.

  18. I so enjoyed this site! I look forward to reading more from both if you! What a wonderful way to start my day; even if I already live in Hawaii…! ?™

  19. I never been in Hawaii but this is one of my bucket list the places that i wanted to go. Hawaii sounds like a lot of fun and the great food also.

  20. I spent a week in Kauai and loved it by I can see why you might want to move. In the short week I was able to hit all of the major towns on the island and experience so much. It was a great place to vacation and I would love to go back but I’m not sure I would like living there.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

I agree! I don’t know that I would want to live there, either – but it’s because the tropical weather just isn’t my thing!

  21. we were set to go to Hawaii over the summer. Everything was set and paid for and we had to cancel, uuuuuuuugh

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Oh man, that’s a bummer! Maybe another time!!!
