Now….refill that coffee and let’s get to chatting with Morning Coffee!
So, I, Clo, am back! Am now I’m married. Now for all that fun stuff. Changing the name.. Boo. SO not looking forward to that. My husband and I just got back from our weeklong honeymoon in Maui. However, it was jam packed with tons and tons of things we did. I’ll be sure to share those all with you. And with going back to work right after I returned, ek. That make things crazier. It’s like I need time to just put up my feet and chill for a bit. Who ever knew planning a wedding and getting married could be so crazy?! Now, on to our next adventures. We have many more years to look forward to and this truly is just the beginning. What’s next? I’m not sure yet, but I’m sure it’ll be magical. I told myself years ago that when I die, hopefully many, many years from now. That I’ll be remembered as a caring, kind, hard worker and be remembered for my legacy. Not just a person that will be forgotten 100 years after my passing. So now is the time to really push and really find a way to make that mark. It’s amazing to know that I have some one who is 110% committed to my happiness and my life goals. He’s 110% committed to my blogging and career moves. Let’s just hope everything slowly pans out. Who knows where life will take us, but we’re on this road together.
What’s some of your advice for us, now that we’re married?
I (Jeni), am pretty easy to entertain. Shoot…spend a day in my brain, and you’ll be laughing for hours! 😉 So, last weekend, when the boyfriend wanted to go see the new XMen movie in the theatre, I was really excited – although I really don’t like superhero movies *ducks down from jeers in the crowd*. I like simple superheroes, like Batman or Superman. But the groups of dudes in weird costumes that all have different powers is just a little…. what’s the word I want to use…. cheesy? It’s just not my cup of tea (especially since I prefer coffee). BUT – I went and had a great time. Throughout most of it, I was giggling at the ridiculousness, and enjoying Bryan’s reactions to what I thought were silly situations. It was time together, though, and that’s what counts. Plus, he bought me a Cherry Coke and HUGE popcorn, so I was a happy girl. What beats movie theatre popcorn? Well…ok, bacon does. But at the theatre, I’ll take the popcorn with extra, greasy, artificial butter on it!
Here are my thoughts on the new XMen movie:
- The characters were SO random. Not knowing the background of any of them, or the stories behind their crusades, I was a little lost. I really wasn’t there for ME or my viewing pleasure, and didn’t really WANT to know the backstories. That being said, the characters were silly, cheesy and their costumes were really lame.
- There were some pretty funny parts of the movie, where I genuinely laughed. There were also a lot of other parts where the entire audience was in an uproar of laughter, while I just sat there. That makes for some awkwardness, for sure.
- The situations the characters were in were totally ridiculous, but I get it – it’s from comic books. Still, to see them acted out by real people made it funny to me.
- The costumes….. REALLY?? Were they TRYING to find the most random costumes for these characters? Bryan said that they are all based on the comic book characters, so that’s what they look like. But since when does Hollywood do EXACTLY what a book dictates? What about creative license and some fantastic costumes that are sexy (like Batman), classic (like Superman) and unique without being over the top (like Spiderman)?
I’m really happy we went, because it was a fun time together. And, of course, I got movie theatre popcorn. What girl would pass up the chance to cuddle on her boyfriend’s shoulder, eat popcorn, and see a huge smile on his face for 2 hours? Not this one!

Washington, D.C. along with NY and California now are at $15/hour. The D.C. Council unanimously agreed to boost the city’s hourly minimum wage to $15 on Tuesday, and Mayor Muriel E. Bowser pledged to sign the measure into law, lifting pay for low-income workers to among the highest in the country within four years.
The developments marked a victory for unions, which targeted the nation’s capital for a symbolic win in the “Fight for $15” campaign in a presidential election year.
I, Clo, feel that the minimum raise should be raised in more states. Including the states that prices for living is much higher. Alaska and Hawaii are a few of them.
See this map below for instance: the work maps how much an American worker needs to earn per hour in each state to rent a two-bedroom apartment. It finds that in no state can a person earning minimum wage afford such an apartment at market rent.
And I’ll tell you that in Hawaii, we don’t get anywhere near $30/hour.. Sadly we’re still at $8.50/hour. Let’s hope things change, and quick.

Jeni’s thoughts on this:
Here’s my thing on minimum wage: these are meant to be temporary and transitional jobs. So, although the map seems really bleak and sad, getting an education and creating a career is what will keep Americans afloat. Granted – it’s tough to find a great paying job out there, because there just aren’t many. The market is SUPER competitive. I have an archeologist friend with 2 PhDs in science, who works at Barnes & Noble. So, I get it. But this map bothers me, because minimum wage jobs aren’t meant to be the be all, end all of your potential income. Another point I have to make is that the money has to come from somewhere. We can’t just MAKE more money to give to the American people. It doesn’t work like that, and our checks and balances have to add up. Giving more money for minimum wage only RAISES the cost of living. Those are my thoughts, as harsh as they may sound. Americans are just too used to be coddled, and comfortable in a transitional job, instead of striving for more. Keep minimum wage at a fair, low number, and force us to get out there and make a solid living for ourselves in the long term!
