Mocha Cream Puffs – For the Coffee Lovers!

Coffee is my all-time favorite beverage.  It’s not the caffeine that I love, it’s the taste!  I called it my “magic bean juice” because coffee beans really are magical! I love baking with coffee, too, because there are so many ways to really make that flavor stand out. I think of these Mocha Cream Puffs as a great way to honor coffee. Plus, they are so much fun and so easy to make, you’ll get these requested over and over again from your family and friends!

What you need:

  • 1 package frozen puff pastry (thawed)
  • 1/2 cup coffee
  • 25 large marshmallows
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 teaspoon espresso powder (optional – gives optimum coffee flavor)
  • hot fudge topping

Make them:

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees and place parchment paper on your baking sheets.

In a large, shallow saucepan, combine the coffee and marshmallows.  Cover and cook on LOW, until the marshmallows melt.  Mix and stir until totally combined.  Take off the heat and put the mixture into a bowl. Cover it, and place it in your fridge until it thickens a bit (or until you’re done with the whipping cream, below).

Beat the whipping cream until soft peaks form.  Using a whisk, beat the coffee/marshmallow mixture and add the espresso powder at this point, if you want to use it.  It adds a beautiful boost in the coffee flavor! Then, fold that mixture into the whipping cream. Cover, and leave in the fridge until ready to use.  It will thicken up and create a wonderful mousse-like texture!

Cut out round pieces of puff pastry with 2-2.5 inch cookie cutters.  Use an egg wash over the tops of the pastries, brushing it on lightly. Place about an inch apart on the baking sheet and bake for 13 minutes, or until the tops turn golden.

Cut and separate the pastries, creating a top and bottom.  Spoon the coffee mixture into the bottom. I used about 2 tablespoons per pastry.  Put the top on.  Warm up the hot fudge sauce in the microwave until just liquid enough to drizzle over the tops of the pastries.

WARNING:  These pastries are extremely decadent and delicious.  Take a few and hide them in the fridge for yourself… otherwise, you may not get any after your family gets their hands on them!

Jeni’s Disclaimer: I’m just a regular girl.  I love to drink wine while I bake.  I’m by no means a professional baker or pro photographer. My creations aren’t staged, they just are what they are, and that’s probably obvious. If you’re a normal person that loves to bake or cook and your food ends up looking like REAL food, and not like something you’ll see on Instagram, you’re in the right place.

Those look amazing . I’m not a big marshmallow person but the coffee would balance that powder sweetness. I am coffee addicted and that drizzle omg.

I’ve always made my cream puffs from scratch but this is so much easier.

This does sound good. I’ve made cream puffs before, but not with puff pastry. These would be delish to try!
