“Surprise Ride aims to foster creativity in kids and expand their horizons. With a little hands-on learning and a lot of fun, we help kids exercise that special power of creative genius that empowers them to be tomorrow’s innovators.” Surprise Ride is just that, a surprise! These amazing monthly boxes were founded by sisters who truly enjoyed their childhood with their father, and all the things they did with him. They are now making this happen for children all over! Family togetherness, education, creativity and fun make up each of these unique boxes. Every Mom or Dad can respect their three basic principles:
1. Kids are brilliant.
2. Curiosity fuels success.
3. Everyone loves getting a surprise in the mail.
They describe themselves as “a monthly box of adventure.” Getting kids ages 6 to 11, excited about creativity that they can share with their parents and siblings is what motivates this unique company. Each box is filled with all of the supplies needed to complete projects that explore the month’s theme, a book, snack or other fun surprise and a Surprise Ride booklet that helps you explore the theme of the box.
I, Sarina, was super excited to be getting a subscription box from Surprise Ride to review. I am always looking for new and fun things for my kids to do, but finding the time to plan different things to do can be challenge. After a long day at work and school, followed by homework, chores, dinner and bathtime, who has the time to create interesting and educational activities that will keep a child’s attention? Surprise Ride has the answer! I am all about being hands on and creative and my daughter, Lili, is exactly the same! We’d much rather spend our time building, creating, and using our imaginations before sitting down in front of the TV and vegging out. And if we can squeeze in an educational learning experience while we’re at it, then even better! When I told her we were expecting a Surprise Ride box in the mail, and that it would have fun new projects for us to do, her eyes lit up!
When we opened our adorable box, which was a bright blue and orange, we discovered that we received the Birdsville box! Lili loves animals, and I could tell she was thrilled! Inside we found a laminated card filled with fun bird facts, paint-your-own birdhouse (paint included!,) Make & Launch Seed Balls activity, bird whistle, a bird-shaped glider, and a Blacky the Crow book. The snack in this box was a seed and fruit mix, which was a yummy way to get into the spirit of learning more about birds!
After putting our snack in a bowl, we decided to work on our projects. Since Lili is 7, these activities were suited perfectly for her. She was able to do them almost entirely by herself, and she really enjoyed them. Lili has a couple of other birdhouses on our back patio, and was contemplating how many new birdies she could expect to find out there when she hung her newly painted birdhouse with the others.
The glider was fun to chase around for the remainder of the afternoon. After dinner Lili read her new book, Blacky the Crow. When she was done she said her favorite part of the box was making the feeder. My favorite thing about the Surprise Ride box was the fact that we had something different to do, and all the components were included in this masterfully designed pre-planned activity box. It was great to have a new learning experience that isn’t focused on looking at a screen. What a ride!
