I’ve made Apple Cider Cupcakes, and Apple Cider Caramels, a Caramel Apple Fudge that uses apple cider as an ingredient… so it’s safe to say I love apple cider and its fun flavors! The spice of cinnamon with the tart apple is an amazing combination. After cupcakes, caramels, and fudge, the next logical thing to create was an apple cider donut! These are really fun, and can be iced with caramel, or sprinkled with a cinnamon, sugar & brown sugar combo.
I got my muffin pan at Target, but you can get them in TONS of different shapes from Amazon. I also love to use Spiced Alpine Apple Cider packets that I get at my grocery store, but you can use any brand you like. Ready? Let’s make some donuts!
What you need:
- 1 box yellow cake mix
- 1 egg (room temp)
- 1/4 cup butter (melted)
- 1 packet apple cider powder mix (.74oz or close to that)
- 1 cup buttermilk
Caramel Icing
If you plan to use this for all of the donuts, use 25 caramels and 2.5 tablespoons heavy whipping cream.
- 10 caramels
- 2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
Cinnamon & Sugars
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
Make them:
Preheat oven to 400
Lightly spray the donut cups
In a bowl, hand mix all of the donut ingredients and stir until just combined
Bake 10-12 minutes
For caramel icing: let donuts cool before dipping tops into caramel
For cinnamon & sugars: while the donuts are warm, press them into the mixture and coat
Try these, too!

Jeni’s Disclaimer: I’m just a regular girl. I love to drink wine while I bake. I’m by no means a professional baker or pro photographer. My creations aren’t staged, they just are what they are, and that’s probably obvious from the pictures. I create my recipes from inspiration of scents and flavors around me. I also repurpose my grandma’s old recipes. If you love to bake and your food ends up looking like REAL food, and not like something you’ll see on Instagram, you’re in the right place.
