Summer flavors are so much fun to work with when you’re baking! They are fruity, fresh and definitely fun. I was inspired to make these unique Rice Krispies Treats when I passed the powdered drink aisle at the grocery store. I spotted the Kool-Aid packets and figured that if I could use the pink lemonade Kool-Aid to make pink lemonade fudge, I could use the watermelon Kool-Aid for Rice Krispies Treats! The sweet, tart addition of the Kool-Aid really kicks these classic treats up a notch. And they definitely taste summery 🙂
What you need:
- 1 (10 oz) bag large marshmallows (about 40)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 packet (.15 oz) Watermelon Kool-Aid
- 6 cups Rice Krispies
- 1 cup multi-colored sprinkles
Make them:
Prepare a 9 x 13 baking dish by spraying evenly or buttering it. Alternatively, lay wax paper or sprayed parchment paper in the dish.
Prepare your cereal by measuring 6 cups and placing in a bowl. You’ll need to add this quickly, so you want it prepared ahead of time .
In a large pot, melt the butter and marshmallows on LOW, stirring to combine.
Once melted, stir in the Kool-Aid powder and mix until fully integrated.
Take off heat, and immediately add Rice Krispies, coating the cereal, without crushing it. Work quickly, as the marshmallow mixture will begin to harden.
Press mixture into your prepared pan evenly, then sprinkle with sprinkles.
Place in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before cutting and enjoying!
Try these fun summery treats, too!
