During the month of May 2019, something exciting is happening. Something new, fresh and innovative. Something inspiring, motivating and exciting. It’s an amazing campaign called Play All May, by The Genius of Play. This is the first-ever play awareness month that celebrates and embraces play as a critical part of healthy childhood.
The American Association of Pediatrics released a report encouraging doctors to prescribe play as an integral part of child development. How about that? Prescribing play! Nowadays, kids are busier than ever with sports and school, extracirricular activities and family time. There’s very little unstructured time for getting silly, pulling out the toy box and unleashing their imagination. So, May is now a month-long celebration of play.
5 REASONS TO CELEBRATE PLAY!
- Getting kids to play is absolutely critical to their healthy development! See the facts.
- Overly-structured schedules, increased focus on academics, and the growing amount of screen time have led to the decline in play.
- Through play, kids acquire 6 critical skills they need for success in school and in life.
- Play brings families and generations together and reduces stress for everyone.
- Play is FUN! And where there is play, there is also LEARNING!
Let me take this perfect opportunity to introduce you to one of my personal favorite new toys from BRIO – My First Farm. It’s the perfect way to celebrate Play All May! We are all very familiar with BRIO toys – because we grew up with them ourselves! They are still innovating and creating toys for these new generations of children, without losing that classic BRIO feel they have always offered in their products.
My First Farm is an amazing little set for toddlers. It introduces them to the BRIO wooden railway system (which is truly amazing). Kids will learn about farmyard animals with the five wooden farm animals in the set. They fit into the animal wagon, so they can be transported by train to the farm! Every animal comes with three distinct sounds – activated when they are placed in the meadow. It’s definitely more than just wooden blocks, and better than a video game!
Play is definitely what the doctor ordered – and there’s no such thing as too much of it! Let this month become the time when healthy play habits are instilled into your kids’ lives. Remember the health benefits that children receive and soak up from genuine, uninhibited creative play time, and let them PLAY!
