Check that beast out!  I (Jeni) lived in Vancouver, Canada for a little over a year, and fell in love with Tim Horton’s.  Up there, Tim Horton’s (Timmy’s) is like Starbucks in the US. There are some Tim Horton’s on the east coast in the US, as well.  Anyway, to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary on July 1 this year, they released this one day only offer-  a Poutine Donut.  If you aren’t familiar with poutine, it’s french fries with gravy and cheese curds on it.  Every restaurant in Vancouver (and probably all of Canada!) offers their version of this dish.  I, personally, did NOT enjoy any of the poutine I had.

Back to the Poutine Donut.  It’s the famous Tim Horton’s Honey Dip Donut with potato wedges, gravy and cheese curds on top of it.  Seriously.  I love all of those things separately, but together…. uhhhhhh….. I’ll just take some Tidbits and a Double Double, thank you (if you have been to or are from Canada, you’ll know those are donut holes and a coffee with double milk, double sugar).  I do love the creativity of this invention, though!

Have you ever had poutine?

I (Sarah) am totally obsessed with the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. As a child I swore I was going to marry Matthew Broderick some day. Last year marked the 30th anniversary of the movie (Seriously, I can’t be that old). The city of Chicago had an amazing festival called Ferris Fest that I would have loved to attend. They even re-created the popular parade seen from the movie and other popular scenes using the fans. I would have loved to be at the event, but I was unable to go.

I’m always on the look for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off merchandise that I don’t already have in my collection. That is why I was thrilled to find this awesome Hot Wheels car that I could add to my collection. Now if I could just figure out how to get the real life Matthew Broderick added to my collection without my boyfriend noticing, I would truly have everything Ferris Bueller themed.

Is there a movie that you are crazy about and collect merchandise from?

I (Sarah) had an original Furby when I was a child. I loved it. At least, I loved it until I started babysitting for a little girl who had one that never shut up. I was losing my mind when it wouldn’t quit talking, because it kept waking her up when she would fall asleep (she was 3 years old at the time). If you remember the original Furby, it didn’t have an on/off switch. I finally called my dad asking what to do, and he told me to put a paper bag over it so Furby would sleep. That was the last I heard from Furby that night.

Fast forward to my birthday in May and I got a Furby Boom. I was so excited to have a new Furby. And then I actually started playing with it, and it was nothing like the original Furby that I knew and loved. I was so disappointed that it was basically just a “modern Furby” but all the Furby charm was gone. Another toy update that completely wrecks my childhood!

Have you ever been disappointed by a toy from your childhood that has been updated?

I (Sarah) am loving this unicorn makeup brush set. It’s so colorful and the handles are shaped like unicorn horns. The set is only around 10 bucks.

I (Sarah) am a huge Disney Tsum Tsums fan which is why I was excited to find this Tsum Tsum beach towel for just $10.99!

I (Sarah) love dinosaurs and I totally wish this Intex Dinosaur splash and play center was made for adults. It’s just $33!

If you have an Apple Watch – you might want to check this out!  These Apple Watch Silicone Bands are just $9.99 (regularly $50+)!

These Hanging Mason Jar Shelves with jars included are just $16.99 right now!  Plus, they come in lots of great colors.  Perfect for indoor little plants, toothbrush holders, craft rooms, spices and much more.

Whoa.  Check out that art work!  I (Jeni) stumbled upon these pictures of latte art from a guy named Lee Kang-bin.  He’s in South Korea, and what he does with latte foam is pretty amazing.  Although I love this – it takes him 15 minutes to paint these incredible images on the foam.  Wouldn’t your coffee be pretty cold by then??  Still – pretty cool to look at, right?

Do you get art on your latte when you can?

If you have a dog, you might appreciate this!  It’s hysterical, but actually pretty functional and cool!  It’s the Dogbrella!  The umbrella hooks to your leash and keeps your dog from getting pounded with rain.  Definitely a great idea for moody dogs that don’t want to get wet when they have to use nature’s restroom or go for a walk!  Side note-  read the “Warm Tips” part on the image.  Unfortunately, I don’t think the translator that was used was much help 😉

Would your dog love this?

Ok, guys.  Which pill would you take if you had to take one?  I (Jeni) am all about everything happening for a reason, so going back in time is NOT an option for me.  Plus, the Butterfly Effect comes into play.  I’m 41, so skipping ahead 9 years isn’t so bad.  And I’d get 10 million bucks. It’s the blue pill for me!

Which pill would you take?

I (Sarah) have found my dream coffee mug. As a dinosaur lover, I am loving the fact that this mug changes from dinosaurs to dinosaur bones when you add liquid.

I (Sarah) love summer picnics. And I’m totally loving this self contained picnic backpack that has everything you need for a perfect picnic. I love the fact I don’t have to lug around a picnic basket anymore.

What do you take with you for a great picnic?

Do you Funyuns chips? Well I (Sarah) recently found something even better at World Market, these amazing Beer Battered Onion Rings. They are like Funyuns for adults and they are super tasty. These are my new favorite salty snack. They taste just like beer battered onion rings, only crispier and without needing a deep fryer.

People either love Funyuns or hate them – which type of person are you?

In my (Sarah’s) household we eat lots of hot dogs. I recently found this recipe for Taco Dogs and hot dogs will never be the same. They are so tasty! It’s like getting a taco and a hot dog at the same time. Life truly doesn’t get any better!

What’s on your menu today?

Family vacations to the beach seem like so much fun, until you actually get there and realize that young children and beaches aren’t compatible. This hilarious compilation of “beach vacation fails” from America’s Funniest Home Videos had me (Sarah) laughing hysterically. I’ve taken kids to the beach (in large numbers) and I know what a disaster it can be.

  1. That latte art is amazing! But seriously, how do you drink it without feeling guilty about drinking it because it’s so cool?

  2. I remember the Furby, tons of fun. Okay an umbrella for the dog. We love our animals but not happening. Even makeup brushes are getting into the unicorn craze.

    • Candy, Furby’s were awesome weren’t they? I wish the new Furby was as much fun as the old one, but sadly, it’s not. Thanks for joining us!

  3. Oh my gosh that map of the family vacation destinations made me laugh so hard. The southeast “anything that doesn’t have you burst into flames” I was dying when I read that. I know that area well in this so true!

    • Jeanette, we are so glad that the map could make you laugh. We try to keep summer lighthearted through the bugs and hot temperatures. Stay cool! Thanks for joining us!

  4. AHHHHH! That Poutine donut looks amazing. I had the chance to visit Canada a few years ago, and I ate Poutine everyday. Sometimes I ate it several times a day. I gained like 10 pounds. LOL

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

OMG! HAHAH!!!! People either love it or hate it, that’s for sure!

    • Stacie, I haven’t had a chance to try poutine, but all this talk about it, definitely makes me want to try it. Thanks for joining us!

  5. I am up here in Alberta and LOVE LOVE LOVE Tim Horton’s. They only recently came to town (I live in a small, rural town) and my Double Double is my morning favourite! My kids almost LIVE on TimBits when they can!!!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

YES YES YES!!!! Double Double and Timbits, please! I wish you could mail me some! LOL

    • Kristen, I’ve never been to Tim Horton’s, but have heard so many great things about it. Thanks for joining us!

  6. I would totally fast forward to age 50 (blue pill) as long as I am guaranteed that if I am dead at 50 my family would get the money. No I am not in a rush to leave them early LOL but I am 48 – that is only 2 years away. Granted anything can happen in 2 years but maybe I would in effect overt my own death! Hummm – Truly though I would skip BOTH pills because like you, believing everything happens for a reason, what if I missed a needed life lesson in those 2 years!?
    Yikes.

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

Totally agreed, girl! If I HAD to pick one – definitely skip ahead to 50!

    • Joely, 48 is a spring chicken these days. You sound like you are full of energy and life. Thanks for joining us!

  7. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is such a classic. I made a point of showing it to my kids when they were old enough! I didn’t know about Ferris Fest but that’s really cool!

    • Liz, showing Ferris Bueller’s Day Off to young children often makes me feel old, laugh. Thanks for joining us!

  10. I could barely focus after that donut. Holy lands, it’s like a dream! Then I got to the coffee art and was mesmerized again.

  11. I am loving that Ferris car….how adorable. I see that going right into my hubby’s stocking this Christmas! I am also going to be making some Taco Dogs soon!!

    • Jamie, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off was such a great movie. After I received the Ferris car, I went online and found out that there are tons of movie based cars from movies like Ghostbusters and tv shows like Dukes of Hazard. I see a new collection in the making. Thanks for joining us!

  12. Claudia Krusch Reply

I remember when the original Furby came out. It was such a hot item at Christmas. I would love to try a Poutine Donut. It looks so delicious.

    • Claudia, the year the original Furby came out was nuts. My parents tried to get one in October, and they were already sold out. I remember my dad got a certificate saying I would get one the day after Christmas. It was fun to go to the mall the day after Christmas and get my toy, besides there were plenty of other toys Christmas morning. Thanks for joining us!

  13. I would totally choose to go back to age 10 with all the knowledge. And soft tacos all day.

    • Sinisa, I think I would pick age 5 if I could go back to one age and stay there. By 10 I was already well into the ups and downs of life. At 5, it hadn’t happened yet, laugh. Thanks for joining us!

  14. I LOVED Ferris Bueller’s Day Off when I was a kid!! That movie always seemed like the epitome of teenage cool to me. I also can’t believe it’s 30 yeas old!!

    • Ricci, I totally agree on Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, what kid didn’t want to be a teenager like Ferris? Thanks for joining us!

  15. No thanks to the poutine donut. I’m Canadian and love poutine and Timmie’s donuts but not together. Now I’m craving a poutine.

    • Sherry, can you believe I’ve never had poutine or Tim Horton’s? I guess neither are a big deal in Southern California. Thanks for joining us!

  16. My 8-year-old is obsessed with all things unicorn. When those make-up brushes come home, I know I’ll have to find them from her. They’re so cute!

    • Melanie, the great thing about the unicorn makeup brushes is that there are enough that you could give your daughter one of her own, and still have plenty left for yourself. Thanks for joining us!

  17. That Dinosaur Splash zone looks Amazing. My kids would have so much fun this summer with that. Just might need to add that to the our list of wants.

    • Nellie, I think any kid would love the dinosaur splash zone. As an adult, I would love to play in it. Thanks for joining us!

  18. I never thought I’d find a donut I didn’t like but the Poutine flavor would be a big no way for me! I’m totally with you on that cool dino coffee mug though. I need to get one of those!

    • Dawn, I feel the same way about the poutine donut, I wouldn’t want to try it. Thanks for joining us!

  19. Haha so many great things going on here! Those unicorn brushes are awesome, except my toddler my take them. lol And that Dogbrella!? Great gift idea for dog owners.

    • Hali, the cool thing about the unicorn brushes is that there are enough of them that you could share with your toddler (if you had too!). Thanks for joining us!

  20. That donut makes my stomach growl this early morning hour lol. I love those hanging mason jar shelves, I want to have one like that in my kitchen, so neat.

    • Chubskulit, I’m a fan of the hanging jars myself, I could definitely use them in my small kitchen. Thanks for joining us!

  21. That poutine donut looks amazing. I never even had the normal poutine yet!

  22. A poutine donut, who would have thought! It sounds so indulgent. I think I’ll have one just to try it! That dog umbrella is a good concept but I don’t think it will work with all dogs in general. There are those that are just too excited to walk outside.

  23. Victoria heckstall Reply

That honey dip donut. Omg! Looks very yummy. This is totally what I love in donuts. This is the best!

    • Victoria, the poutine donut is definitely unique. If you love that kind of thing than it’s definitely the donut for you. Thanks for joining us!

    • Autumn, you are so right, every spoiled puppy needs a Dog umbrella. I can think of two dogs in particular who would love it. Thanks for joining us!

    • Shannon, it’s nice to know there are other Ferris Bueller’s Day Off fans out there, it’s such an awesome movie. Thanks for joining us!

  24. I can’t believe that splash n play center was so cheap! Those are so much fun and I’m with you, I wish it was for adults too!

    • Louise, I would have LOVED something like that splash center when I was a kid. We used to go to the water park, and it definitely wasn’t cheap because my dad always paid for my friends to go also, a splash center like that would have saved us a fortune growing up. Thanks for joining us!
