I (Jeni), swear.  There’s an action figure or doll for EVERYTHING now!  When a new movie is released, a doll for every character is mass marketed.  My boyfriend is a Star Wars collector and there are action figures from characters that literally have 2 seconds of screen time.  That’s insane!

I stumbled upon this awesome artist that takes mass produced dolls and takes the time to make them look more realistic.  But the crazy thing is, he doesn’t just make them look MORE realistic –  some of them actually look like the real person! Even crazier, he’s taking the crappy, original doll and painting over it.  These are incredible, as you can see from the Belle doll above.  WOW!  It seriously looks like a photograph Emma Watson, rather than just a doll.  See all of his awesome restorations HERE!

Check out the pictures and let us know which one you liked best!

I (Sarah) love the 4th of July. It’s one of my favorite holidays. My boyfriend and I have this awesome tradition of watching all four Jaws movies back to back, eating steak, and then watching the Disneyland fireworks on DVD. The original Jaws movie is our favorite and since it takes place on the 4th of July it’s the perfect day to have a marathon. It beats going out and dealing with the bugs and the crowds for firework viewing spots, and it also means we can enjoy as many alcoholic beverages as we want without drinking and driving.

Does your family have a 4th of July tradition?

I (Sarah) gave up on going to fireworks displays years ago. One year we saw a fireworks display where it was so foggy that you could hear the fireworks but not see them. Another year we waited for 2 hours for fireworks at Disneyland and they were cancelled due to high wind. I’d prefer to watch them on t.v. where I know the show will go on.

There is one fireworks show that I will never forget living in Southern California. Every year, San Diego has this massive fireworks display on the 4th of July called the Big Bay Boom. Families line up for hours to get the right spot along the bay to see the fireworks. Tens of thousands of people showed up for the fireworks in 2012, and five minutes before the 15 minute show is about to start, all of the fireworks go off at the same time in 15 seconds. People thought it was the “best fireworks show ever” until they found out that was it, and it was time to sit in traffic to go home. It’s definitely something that I’ll never forget.

Have you ever been to a disappointing or disastrous fireworks display?

I (Sarah) love a great sale! I am a huge Star Trek fan as is my boyfriend, so I was thrilled when one of my favorite stores Think Geek had an amazing sale on Star Trek merchandise. Uniform Hoodies just $19.99 (regularly $59.99!); Messenger Bags $39.99 (regularly $69.99!); Road Trip board game $9.99; Glitter Lamp $16.99; Mugs $6.99; Beach Towels $11.99; Beam Me Up Heat Change Mug $11.99; and this awesome 50th anniversary pin set is just $11.99! I stocked up on all things Star Trek for Christmas gifts during this awesome  sale!

I (Sarah) am crazy about this shark mug from Big Mouth Inc. It’s just $9.99!

Do your kiddos love dinosaurs?  This My Big Dinosaur Book is just $3.79 (regularly $8.99)!

Score the latest Beauty Box from Walmart for just $5 shipped! And the Target Beauty Box is just $7 shipped!

Check those out – they are US postage stamps!  I (Jeni) picked these up yesterday and thought they were so cool and different!  They are part of the Forever stamps, and this set is called, “Have a Ball.”  I don’t get it, though – because they look like regular stickers, don’t they?  I guess all stamps kind of look like stickers, though 🙂  You can grab some, if you’re interested at the USPS website!

Do you go for the classic or fancy stamps?

You know when you get a new cereal, and see the image on the package – but don’t necessarily expect the real product to look like the picture? That’s what I (Jeni) thought when I got this Honey Bunches of Oats with Strawberries cereal.  But check out how big those strawberries are!  I was VERY surprised and really happy.  Plus, there are LOTS in the box, so they didn’t scrimp on the quantity, either. Impressive, Honey Bunches of Oats.  Very impressive.

What’s your favorite cereal?

This might just be the coolest broom EVER! Well… besides the Wisp Broom we told you about a few weeks ago!  This is the Wally Broom, and it’s pretty amazing and simple.  It’s a wet/dry broom with a rotating head and a handle that magnetically connects to the dustpan. Pretty neat, right?

What type of broom do you use?

I (Sarah) am loving this margarita and slush machine from Nostalgia Electronics. It’s called the Margarator and it looks amazing! This would truly step up my margarita game!

What would you make with the Margarator?

Are your kids too young for fireworks or you don’t want to drag the entire family out to watch fireworks late at night? This indoor balloon fireworks idea from Martha Stewart made from balloons and confetti is the perfect alternative for young children. Just make sure you have your vacuum cleaner on hand!

What do you think? Would your kids like this idea?

I (Sarah) live in Southern California and In N Out Burger is legendary around here. Seriously, when you want a burger and shake you go to In N Out. There’s a huge debate whether In N Out Burger or Five Guys makes a better burger. Anyways, now you don’t have to visit the West Coast just to have In N Out Burger with this copycat recipe that you can make yourself, just in time for the 4th of July! These burgers are so tasty, you’ll never want another burger again. Make sure you have plenty of napkins around because they burgers are messy.

What is your favorite burger??

  1. Those dolls are gorgeous! And it’s a definite improvement on the “Justin Bieber” looking Belle doll from the live action movie.

  2. We have been to some impressive fireworks displays. As much as I love them, it is always a trek to see them — always trying to figure out parking and seating, and the kids are tired, and getting out is a mess. Once in a while it’s nice, but not worth it all the time.

I’m not afraid of sharks but I definitely don’t like it when I can’t see into the water. Has to basically be clear!

    • Marysa, living in Southern California, I’ve never seen the ocean clear, it’s usually hard to see what’s beneath you, and I’ll admit that’s a scary thought. Thanks for joining us!

    • Sinisa, it’s a great idea for young children for sure. There are so many fun things you can do indoors with kids too young/too scared of fireworks. Thanks for joining us!

  3. I NEED that shark mug! I’m overdue for a new coffee mug and this one is perfect.

That burger looks amazing. I love the work the artist did on the Belle doll. She looks so realistic. It is crazy how many characters they make dolls for.

    • Lisa, if you’ve never had an In N Out burger before, you need to make a point to have one in your lifetime. Their burgers are legendary. Thanks for joining us!

  5. That Wally broom is pretty cool! I need that to help my cleaning!
