I (Sarah) have fond memories of Jumanji with Robin Williams. So I was extremely excited that there was going to be a remake of Jumanji this December. When they cast The Rock in it, I was slightly disappointed, but I held out hope that the movie would be awesome, after all, it’s Jumanji right?

Fast forward to today, when I actually saw the trailer. I cannot believe this is Jumanji. What did they do to it? It looks more like an adventure movie for the family than Jumanji. It looks nothing like I was expecting and all of my anticipation has drained out of me and I’m now dreading the release and wonder if I will see it at all.

Have you ever been disappointed by a movie trailer?

Does that restaurant look familiar?  If you grew up in the 90s, it should!  That’s The Max from Saved By The Bell, and it’s a real diner!  It’s in Chicago normally, but is going to Los Angeles soon and it looks pretty dang neat!  They even have menu items named after the characters like a Lisa Turtle Milkshake and A.C. Sliders.

I was never a really big fan of the show, although admit I did watch it. Plus, I always thought A.C. Slater was really cute (albeit a horrible little actor).  I think I would actually visit this diner – but they seem to be sold out of reservations all the time, because it’s so popular.

If you loved the show and always wished you could chill out at The Max – now is your chance 🙂  Read more about it HERE!

Uhhhhhh YUM!  TODAY ONLY from 7am-7pm, IHOP is celebrating their 59th anniversary with 59¢ short stack pancakes!!  You don’t need a coupon, and there’s a limit of 1 per person.  Go HERE for more information.

Are you going to head out for some cheap pancakes today?

Calling all Star Wars fans!  This Star Wars X Wing Ride On Vehicle is just $59 right now (regularly $149!).

Do your little ones need new backpacks this year? These popular and highly rated Swiss Gear Backpacks are just $10 each when you use the code 64736617 at checkout from Office Depot! They are regularly $28.99 and come in 3 colors.

This Disney Princess Cookbook is not only super cute – but it’s only around 10 bucks right now!

How adorable are these Ice Cream Bowls w/ Spoons?  Perfect for summer treats, for sure. Plus, a 12 pack is just $12.95!

That thing is brilliant!  I (Jeni) absolutely love handy kitchen accessories and this Pot Clip is right up my alley!  How smart is that? I always make a mess on my stove, even with the spoon holder I have, so this is my new favorite thing in the world (besides bacon, of course.  Bacon is always first).

What is your favorite kitchen gadget?

If you love Twinkies, you’re gonna really love this!  Twinkies is coming out with Twinkies Cappuccino.  Yes, really.  It’s a drink made with milk, spongecake flavor and a “hint” of coffee.  I (Jeni) am not sure if I would love this or not, but I sure as heck am gonna try it!  Read more about it HERE.

Would you try the Twinkies Cappuccino?

Pictures show exactly what you're stretching

This is brilliant.  This article shows in pictures, exactly what muscles are being stretched when you do stretches!  This helped me a lot with my (Jeni) back pain, and helps me figure out what to do when I’m sore from a workout!  If you workout at all, this is a great page to bookmark!! 34 pictures that show you exactly what muscles you’re stretching

Do you have a specific stretch that works best for you?  I would love new stretches for my back!

I (Sarah) found the most amazing makeup palette ever recently! The makeup palette is called Unicorns Vs. Mermaids and it’s everything you want in a makeup palette truly. At $48.50 it’s a pricey makeup palette and it’s only available for pre-order. As much as I love Unicorns and Mermaids I’m not sure I could shell out $48.50 for a single makeup pallette.

Would you buy an expensive makeup pallette?

I (Sarah) am loving this sea dragon pool float. I totally could lounge around the pool all day on one of these. Now if only it breathed fire (or Sparklers) that would be amazing! It’s a little out of my price range (almost $50 bucks) but it looks like so much fun!

What are your favorite pool toys for adults and kids?

I (Sarah) have an ugly old filing cabinet that we got from a business that was closing. When I saw this awesome filing cabinet on Amazon, I totally wanted one. It’s ridiculously overpriced for such a small filing cabinet ($269!) but it sure does look nicer than the one we currently have. Ah well at that price, I’ll have to stick with my ugly filing cabinet.

Do you still use filing cabinets?

strawberry cream cheese shortcake recipe

Last night, I (Jeni) decided to make strawberry shortcake for dessert – but I wanted to do something different with it and add some flavor….so I created this Strawberry Cream Cheese Shortcake!  The strawberry flavored cream cheese mixture is a great addition and really adds  kick to plain strawberry shortcake!

What desserts are you making this week?

  1. OMG! OMG! OMG! How could I not know the Max was an actual diner? I LOVE Saved By The Bell, I’ve seen every episode dozens of times, I have the entire series and follow up series on DVD. I need to go there, just to say that I’ve been there!

    • Jeni Hawkins Reply

I can totally see you going there! Did you check out the menu???

  2. There is a Twinkie cappuccino coming out? That either is going to be really good or terrible. Will be very interesting to see how people react to it. I am with you on the whole Jumanji thing. I wish they had not remade it. I loved the original with Robin Williams.

    • Jeanette, I am a huge fan of the Robin Williams version of Jumanji as well. I will likely see the new one, but I will wait until it’s out on Netflix or DVD, I definitely won’t put any effort into going to see it. Thanks for joining us!

    • Stacie, I’ll probably see Jumanji when it hits Netflix. I’m so unsure about the cast and think it will be hard to compare to Robin Williams. Thanks for joining us!

  3. All I saw was Twinkie Cappuccino. My mouth is already watering. I have that ice cream set. It’s a Summertime must for the kiddos. I think I got it on sale at Kohl’s or Target. As far as Jumanji, The Rock and Kevin Hart have great onscreen chemistry. They were hilarious in Central Intelligence and I think they’ll pull off Jumanji even though us diehards will expect it to be like the Robin Williams’ classic, it looks quite different but I’ll still plan to see it with my kids. OMG, I totally sound like I’m rambling but it’s because of the anticipation of the Twinkie Cappuccino. *smile*

    • Tomi, there’s nothing wrong with rambling when you have something to say. If you get a chance to try Twinkies Cappuccino’s, we’d love to know what you thought about it, be sure to let us know! Thanks for joining us!

  4. Jennifer Van Huss Reply

My kids and I just saw an add for the new jumanji! I am so excited! I love the first one and this one looks hilarious!

    • Jennifer, I think kids will love Jumanji this time around because they never saw the original. To me, the original will always be dear to my heart because Robin Williams was so brilliant in it. Thanks for joining us!

  5. Amy Desrosiers Reply

Wow, those sure are some sexy looking Jumanji people! I much rather watch the version with Robin Williams!

    • Amy, I’m with you, I’d rather watch the Robin Williams version of Jumanji, sometimes they just shouldn’t remake a classic. Thanks for joining us!

  6. Twinkie cappuccinos sounds very interesting. I live your posts. So much fun.

    • Sinisa, the Twinkies Cappuccino definitely sounds interesting. I lost my love of Twinkies when Hostess got bought out and the recipe changed. Thanks for joining us!

  7. So much fun packed into this post! Don’t even know where to start! So bummed I missed cheap pancakes!

    • Cher, the awesome thing about IHOP is there is always a way to save money. They have a fantastic “rewards program” called Pancake Revolution. You get a free stack of pancakes for joining, another one on the anniversary of the day you joined, and another one on your birthday. Plenty of free pancakes anytime you want them. Thanks for joining us!

  8. Twinkie Cappuccino! Count me in omg sucg greatness in a small wrapper. This is like Christmas I can’t wait.

    • Ra’Nesha, I’m glad that the Twinkie Cappuccino is something you will enjoy. I am not a coffee fan, but that sounds tasty, even to me. Thanks for joining us!

  9. I didn’t religiously follow the show but I did watch it too and it would be so nice to dine there! It’s so cool! Should have taken advantage of that iHop promo! The stretches are helpful, thanks for that!

    • Carol, I think most of us watched Saved By The Bell when it originally aired. I was surprised that they are still showing it in reruns many places. Thanks for joining us!

  10. I think the new Jumangi movie looks hilarious!! I’m glad they didn’t try to redo the original or do anything that would take away from it and I can’t wait to see this version!!

    • Ricci, I wish when they would “remake” movies like Jumanji that they would not even call them remakes, and just use the concept and recycle it into something else. Hopefully it’s not so awful that people won’t want to try the original. I can’t believe there is a whole new generation of kids who never saw the Robin Williams version. Thanks for joining us!

  11. I remember watching Saved by the Bell when I was younger. I didn’t know that the diner was real. Cool.

    • Stacie, I’m totally with you on the diner from Saved By The Bell, I had no idea it was real either. Thanks for joining us!

  12. I actually want to see Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle. I love Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart always cracks me up. I did see the original with Robin Williams when I was younger and enjoyed that version too.

    • Sherry, I’m glad that you’ll see Jumanji. I’ll probably see it down the road just to say I saw it, like when it hits Netflix, but I’m not too thrilled with the casting choices. Thanks for joining us!

    • Our Family World, I know what you mean about the pot clips. I need them in my kitchen so bad! Bacon is usually at the top of my grocery list also, so many bacon lovers in this world. Thanks for joining us!

  13. Love those pot clips… how did I not know those were really a thing? I think I will get some to give as gifts!

    • Kristi, I didn’t know pot clips were a thing either. I am going to pick up some for myself as well. Thanks for joining us!

  14. Wait a minute you mean to tell me you can visit the Save By the Bell diner??? OMG that brings all of the 90s dreams to life so exciting!!!!

    • Kiwi, I thought the exact same thing when I heard about the diner, now if only Slater and Morris hung around it, it would be a dream come true. If of course I was in high school and they were still hot teenage boys. Laugh. Thanks for joining us!

  15. I’ve never seen that float before! It’s super cute. And that backpack!

    • Brianne, it’s so important to get backpacks at a discount because it seems like even the “lifetime warranty” ones kids manage to destroy in record time. Thanks for joining us!

  16. I had no idea that the max was a real restaurant. I used to live in the Chicago area, I would have visited it I had known.

    • Melissa, I had no idea The Max was a real restaurant either. I used to visit Chicago when I was younger, and I totally would have convinced my parents to take me there had I known. I love Saved By The Bell. Thanks for joining us!

    • Autumn, you definitely can’t go wrong with recipes from a princess cookbook. I hope your kids enjoy it. Thanks for joining us!

  17. Lena Burkut Reply

These Swiss Gear backpacks are everything! I;ve been using mine for a couple years now – they less so much longer and still look amazing! On a different note I am up for a perfect BLT

    • Lena, I totally agree on the backpacks, virtually indestructible, which means that the one we own is actually still in tact, with not even a broken zipper, which is really rare in our house. Thanks for joining us!

  18. The amount of times a movie trailer has disappointed me, too many to count but then also its true the other way round.

    • Anosa, I agree completely on movie trailers, so many disappointments. But then, like you mentioned, there are times when I think a movie will be terrible, and I see the trailer, and something catches my eye, and I end up loving the movie. So many trailers seem to show such a small insignificant portion of a movie that it’s hard to judge whether or not you’ll like a movie just by the trailer. Thanks for joining us!

    • Kristin, I have a feeling that a lot of people are going to be Twinkie Cappuccino fans! Thanks for joining us!

    • Louise, it seems like they are inserting The Rock in almost every new movie. I wish I was a bigger fan of his acting. I love the guy as a person, his daughter is adorable, but as an actor, not so much. Thanks for joining us!

  19. I can’t wait to see Jumanji. I was thrilled to hear they were doing a remake. I just hope they don’t screw it up (haha). One of my favorite childhood movies.

    • Diana, I’m excited about the prospect of a Jumanji remake, but I’m definitely worried about them screwing it up. We’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out! Thanks for joining us!

  20. That diner is adorable! Does that ever bring back memories, lol. Ugh, I hate when they remake stuff I loved. Don’t think I’ll go see that Jumanji.

    • Kerri, I know, seeing The Max definitely brings back memories for me. Now if only I could be in high school again, dating Zack Morris instead of hanging out with the guys I always choose, laugh. Thanks for joining us!

  21. I loved “Saved by the Bell”. It would be so much fun to go to the diner. I would dress in my high school jeans and jean jacket. 🙂

    • Kelly, way to go for being able to still fit in your high school jeans, that’s awesome! Thanks for joining us!

  22. Gabriel Bregg Reply

Had the exact same thought about Jumanji – it’s basically the same name and little else. In a way I’m glad because the original was so amazing but I wish they’d just change the name and be done with it.

    • Gabriel, I so agree with you on this. I wish they would just make “new movies” and not give classic names to new releases of movies, unless they are like an exact duplicate type of remake. This movie looks like it could be good as a stand alone movie, it’s just not Jumanji. Thanks for joining us!
