Happy Hour w/ Jeni & Sarah

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time to brush off the stress, negativity and blah of your week.  Enjoy some mid-week mixers with us without leaving the comfort of your home.  Uncork your favorite wine, pop open a beer, mix your favorite cocktail…. and unwind with us this evening.  And, if you’re feeling extra perky in the mornings, or need some help getting a jump on your day, join us for Morning Coffee weekday mornings, too!

Something to snack on

This appetizer is more of a snack recipe that is awesome for Shark Week or any time. It’s a new favorite of mine (Sarah’s) and it’s called Cake Batter Shark Bait. It combines popcorn, cake mix, white chocolate chips, and gummy sharks into a delectable treat for the entire family.

What’s your sweet snack of choice?

I (Sarah) recently found out about this brewery called Staggeringly Good  in the UK that makes dinosaur themed beer. How cool is that? They have dinosaur taps and fun dinosaur themed beers like Post Impact Porter, Dawn Steeler, Veloci Rapture, PteRedactale, ThaiRannocitrus, and StaggerSaurus. This would be an awesome place to spend Happy Hour for sure!

What’s the most unique beer you’ve ever tried?

I (Jeni) LOVE this idea as a great gift for travelers and beer lovers!  It’s a USA Beer Cap Map – it holds beer caps from everywhere you go.  Pretty neat, right?

Which states would you be able to fill up?

Wow!  Combining two wonderful things – ice cream and alcohol.  Genius. This place, Tipsy Scoop in New York City, serves up ice cream with a twist.  Their ice cream contains 5% alcohol and they make some pretty neat creations!  Man – why does Dallas have to be so far from NYC?!  🙁

Have you ever tried ice cream with alcohol infused in it?

These are so amazing!  This artist, Carne Griffiths, creates amazing pieces of art using ink, tea and alcohol!HERE That’s pretty clever, and the paintings are really beautiful and intricate.  Check out all of her work .

Pick your poison

In honor of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel, my favorite week of the summer, I (Sarah) am sipping on a Shark Bite Cocktail tonight. It’s the perfect beverage for Shark Week! You can even make a “kid friendly” version using Blue Powerade and Grenadine.

Lookie lookie what I (Jeni) spotted in the beer section at my grocery store!  Bud Light Peach-a-Rita.  I was pretty excited to try it, and thought it might be pretty tasty.  Although it’s yummy – it’s definitely too sweet for my personal liking.  It really tastes more like peach syrup than anything else.  BUT, I did grab some Heineken, as well, so I have a delicious backup beverage for our Happy Hour! My favorite beer!

What are you sipping on this evening?

Bitches & Moans

I (Sarah) look forward to Shark Week all year long. Every year they hype it up as the coolest thing ever, and every year they haven’t failed to disappoint. This year, I was looking forward to the kick off, Michael Phelps racing a Great White Shark. I knew he was going to wear a monofin, and I knew they wouldn’t put him next to a Great White Shark, but I still thought it was going to be awesome. And then it actually happened, and Michael Phelps raced a CGI shark, and there was no real shark. The whole thing was so disappointing.

Have you ever seen advertising for a TV program that turned out disappointing?

I (Sarah) love Bindi Irwin and the Irwin family. I was so excited when a friend found a Bindi Irwin bendable toy at a local store, since most of the time you have to order the merchandise directly from Australia. Then I actually saw the bendable. I know it’s supposed to be a “young Bindi Irwin” but it looks nothing like her at all! It was so disappointing. I guess I will have to wait until I can get the fashion doll, which looks a lot more like Bindi.

Do you hate when they change celebrities so their merchandise looks nothing like them?

Here’s the deal in Dallas, Texas when it rains in the summer.  It’s STILL going to be 95+ degrees. And the wind that comes with a nice, hot ferociousness.  So yes, it’s not 105 anymore, but is there REALLY a difference between 95 and 105?  Not to me (Jeni).  We have storms here – big ones that have lightening and thunder and they are awesome.  But in the summer – those storms can make it so much worse.  It doesn’t cool off and once the storm passes, it leaves the humidity level even higher – like that’s possible.  Oh, and the flies.  All of the flies in the state, and all of the bugs anywhere near Texas try to seek refuge in my house.  If they want to help pay the bills, great, come on in.  Otherwise – Texas summer storms might look beautiful but they are a PAIN!

Do you have great summer storms in your state?

  1. We were super excited to try Peach-A-Rita too, but it was overly sweet for us as well. Which is amazing, because my boyfriend will drink anything you put in front of him, and even he only took a few sips.

    • Stacie, I totally agree about popcorn snacks, they are awesome! They make the perfect quick snack when you are in a hurry as well. Thanks for joining us for Happy Hour!

  2. We love Shark Week! I had almost forgotten that it was coming on until I saw the commercial for the Phelps vs Shark! We watched it, and really enjoyed it, but then again we are huge Phelps fans!

    • Joanna, I love Shark Week so much, but was disappointed in the Phelps thing. The CGI was just so bad and it didn’t seem like an actual race. Phelps wants a rematch, I hope if Discovery lets him have another go at it, that they do better the second time around. Thanks for joining us!

    • Colleen, I know exactly what you mean. The hot weather this summer makes it the perfect time for alcoholic ice cream. Like seriously, how could alcohol and ice cream together ever be wrong? Thanks for joining us!

Totally perfect with this weather! And I agree – HOW could that be WRONG!? 🙂

There’s also a wine ice cream out there – but it’s honestly icky! lol

    • Natalie, I think alcohol infused ice cream is an amazing summer treat. One of the major companies just started making it, but for now, it’s only available in Canada, sigh! Thanks for joining us!

  3. These SharkBite cocktails are going to be perfect for my beach themed party next month. I’ve been trying to look for some good recipes to make for it. I am sure these will be a big hit. They will go perfect with the shark cake.

  4. I feel like I need that ice cream with a twist. Yum! Plus that cake batter shark bait.

    Shark week is always exciting!

    • Amber, I agree, I think we all need a little alcohol infused ice cream in our summer. Thanks for joining us!

  5. Ice cream with alcohol sounds awesome! Summer storms here usually gives us a break from the humidity.

    • Sherry, we’ve had some storms here this summer and they just increase the humidity. I live in the desert and I am so not used to the humidity. I can’t wait for Winter! Thanks for joining us!

  6. OOOH I think I am going to make that shark bait snack! It will be perfect for us tonight when we watch a show for Shark week!

As soon as I saw that little action figure thing I thought it looked like Bindi. Bindi is such a beautiful young lady these days.

    • Amy, I would have liked it to more closely resemble Bindi Irwin. I think she is a strong, intelligent, bright, amazing woman. I wish they would get more Bindi (and Australia Zoo) merchandise in the United States. Thanks for joining us!

  8. I would have never thought to pair the alcohol and ice cream. I must admit I think I would love to sample something from Tipsy Scoop!

    • Kelly, when you think about it, infusing ice cream with alcohol is just a brilliant idea. I wish I was the one who thought of it. Thanks for joining us!

  9. The Shark Bait popcorn does sound really good! So does the Shark Bite Cocktail! Shark Week should be fun!

  12. I think the Cake Batter Shark Bait looks totally yummy! I love Cake batter flavored anything. I’m agreeing with you on the Bindi toy. It doesn’t look anything like her! You would think they could a try a little harder than that.

    • Dawn, I know, I thought the same thing. Bindi Irwin is such a beautiful and brilliant young lady, and the bendable toy came off looking like a cartoon from The Wild Thornberry’s or something like that rather than like Bindi Irwin. Thanks for joining us!

  13. Great round of ideas ladies! I’m intrigued about trying the Tipsy place in NY! We are going later on this year, and I would love to give this a try! Thanks for the recommendation!

  14. Hey the Peach a Rita should be really good, I tried a variety of it and it’s very bubbly. 🙂

    • Hali, Peach-A-Rita was the first “a-rita” flavor that our household wasn’t fond of. Everyone’s taste buds are definitely different and selective, so you should definitely give it a try. Thanks for joining us!

  15. Shark Bait Popcorn and Peach A Rita is on my list next to the Shark Bait Cocktail ooweee such goodness.
