Do you like spicy foods? If so, then you’ll love Colman’s Mustard
. Colman’s mustard is known world wide as the English mustard. Colman’s has been making mustard for almost 200 years. In fact, Colman’s set up a community of farms in Carrow, Norwich in 1878 that is still around today. Colman’s mustard is not your ordinary mustard by any means. It’s a high quality spicy mustard made by mixing together brown mustard seeds and white mustard seeds to pack a punch every time you eat it. Colman’s Mustard is available in a ready to use prepared mustard as well as a dry mustard powder. Colman’s mustard is fat free, cholesterol free, and kosher while Colman’s mustard powder is free of dyes, chemicals, and preservatives.
I (Jeni) was sent both Colman’s prepared mustard and Colman’s dry mustard powder to test and review for the Holiday Gift Guide this year.
I love to cook. Finding a condiment that can be used in a variety of recipes is difficult. Finding a high quality mustard that isn’t boring like yellow mustard is also extremely difficult. When I received the Colman’s Mustard, I couldn’t wait to try it out. I used it originally on a hot dog, like I would a regular mustard. Wow! The flavor of Colman’s Mustard is unlike the flavor of any mustard I have had before. It’s spicy but not so much as to burn your mouth, sweet but not so much as to hurt your teeth, and acidic but not so much that it tastes like vinegar. Colman’s Mustard did not have a funny aftertaste like other mustards I have tried in the past.I have since started adding Colman’s Mustard to my recipes here and there as well as using it as a dipping sauce. The consistency is perfect to use as a dipping sauce for chicken tenders, and it’s also the perfect consistency to spread on a sandwich. My chicken tenders have never tasted better, and Colman’s Mustard has such a nice consistency that it did not make my sandwich soggy. If you need ideas for how to use Colman’s Mustard in your kitchen, you have to check out the recipe section on the Colman’s Mustard website
, it gives you recipes for barbeque sauce, tartar sauce, dips, cookies, meatloaf, and more, all using Colman’s Mustard as an ingredient. I look forward to trying some of these recipes in the future.
The Colman’s Mustard dry mustard powder is perfect for recipes that use small amounts of mustard and just need a little kick. It tasted wonderful in both deviled eggs and egg salad. The powder is easy to blend into recipes, it doesn’t clump and it doesn’t stick to the sides of the bowl while you are mixing it. There are so many recipes that could use a dash of a kick without being too much and Colman’s Mustard dry mustard powder definitely helps to provide that kick.

This recipe will make 16 servings. Adjust accordingly.
3 cups ketchup
3/4 cups chopped onion
3/4 cups chopped green pepper
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Colman’s Mustard
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)
1 teaspoon pickle juice (optional)
3 lbs. thinly sliced deli ham
hamburger buns, kaiser rolls, or bread of your choice
In a large saucepan, combine the first 12 ingredients. Bring to boil. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Place ham slices in 5-6 qt slow cooker. Add sauce on top and gently stir to combine. Tongs work well for mixing the ham with the sauce. Cook, covered, on low for 5-8 hours until heated through and ham is more tender.
Serve on rolls with pickles and chips for a great lunch or dinner!
