California Delicious Gift Basket

Being a California native, it was really exciting to receive some creamy and savory treats from my home state!  California offers a great selection of gourmet meats, nuts and cheeses, so my expectations were pretty high for this gift basket of yummy goodies. This gift “basket” was delivered in a beautiful, rustic, white wooden crate.  I really got a “picnic” feel from it, and will absolutely use the basket for other purposes around my home now.  Currently, it’s holding my mail by my front door.  I love that California Delicious takes such pride and care in creating their gift baskets.  These aren’t factory manufactured – and that’s pretty obvious when you see your first basket or crate!  This create held a cheese knife, 4 different kinds of bold-flavored spreadable cheeses, 2 boxes of nuts and some salami.

After opening the cellophane around the basket that was keeping the food fresh , I started exploring and tasting all of the great goodies inside:

The first out of the crate was the Nunes Farms Roasted Salted Cashews.  They were buttery and nutty, with a great crunch to them.  I love that they had a sweet kick to them, with a nice, smooth creamy flavor, and were great for snacking.  The Columbus dry salami might have been my favorite item in the basket.  This was the second item I pulled out to taste test.  It was absolutely delicious!  It had a salty, pork flavor with little punches of peppercorn and garlic that brought out the taste of the meat even more.  It wasn’t too greasy, like so many other salamis are, and I really liked that.

Next up, I started sampling the cheeses.  This crate offered 4 flavors of Sonoma Jack:  Habanero, Blue, Pesto and Hot Pepper.  These were easily spreadable cheeses that paired really nicely with the dry salami.  Each cheese had a bold, distinct taste of it’s own, which differs from other brands that tend to claim a flavor, and offer nothing but bland aftertaste.  The Hot Pepper had a bit of a kick to it, but wasn’t too hot for my Irish pallet to enjoy.  The Pesto was my favorite, because it was creamy and had just the right amount of basil in it to give it that unique pesto taste.  The Habanero was pretty hot, but the buttery Sonoma Jack actually helped cool my tongue after the heat was introduced.  The Blue Cheese was really tasty, as it was robust enough to give that strong flavor I was looking for, without being over-powering.  All of these cheeses were super yummy, and the wood handle cheese knife was a great treat to find in the crate!

Almonds are my favorite nut, so I had big expectations when I tried the Nunes Farms Central Valley Honey Cinnamon Almonds.  Crunchy, sweet, and buttery, these almonds were the first thing to be gobbled up entirely!  I will be purchasing more of these, to keep in a  dish for my holiday guests to munch on, because they were pretty incredible.  All over, I fell in love with the Nunes Farms nuts, because they offered such unique flavors and something a little different from the average chestnut or peanut I find at most holiday parties.
California Delicious Gift Basket
This gift crate was really fun to receive and open.  The crate is gorgeous, and the food inside was absolutely delicious.  My only complaint was that I wanted more of everything!  Good thing California Delicious provides you with the details of each of the brands and companies that are participating in the crates and baskets!  This would be an amazing gift for your boss, loved ones, co-workers, friends and neighbors this holiday season.  They can be delightfully surprised when they receive it, and nestle up to a fire while they have a little living room picnic to enjoy these gourmet treats!
